El Capitan's Taco Shack — Restaurant in Upper Township

We stopped here Saturday for lunch for the first time... How did it take us so long to go here... it was a big mistake on our part waiting to try the food. We pulled in and saw a sign to park to the left... got up to the window and placed our order. After getting our tacos pretty quickly we chatted with owner/chef, Vanessa, who is awesome!!! We ordered beef tacos and on special Portobello tacos and both were delicious... You get two soft corn tortillas with each taco (meaning you can make two tacos out of the one taco) along with chips! We also got some churros for dessert which were light on the inside with a little crisp on the outside. There is music playing on the speakers, cornhole, and live music on certain nights with a BYOW (bring your own whatever)! You have got to try this place as soon as possible and we will definitely be back so see...

Even though it is offshore it is my go to place to eat at the shore. While the overcrowded, overpriced, over-salted, overrated restaurants on the barrier islands happily ripoff tourists all summer long, El Capitans offers a respite for both locals and tourists alike. With comfortable outdoor seating that is dog friendly, nightly specials with fresh, innovative ingredients, a friendly crowd and occasional live music, a night out at El Capitans eclipses every other dining experience I've ever had at the "shore." As someone with Celiac disease it is often hard to find places that offer multiple gluten-free options and El Capitains always has a variety of gluten-free and vegan choices on the menu. I’v eaten here at least 20 times over the past 2 years (the first year it was located in Ocean City). I’ve had almost everything on the menu and have taken numerous friends to dinner here - everyone loves it. The owner and staff take great pride in preparing and serving fresh, authentic and delicious food. The ambiance is quaint and fun. BYO drinks and eat outside on the picnic tables or just take your order to go. You can’t find many places serving food like this so close to Ocean City.
