My husband & I went to Painted Turtle on April 14 as something fun to do on a day off work. We had an hour drive from our home in Allegan County. I had fallen in love with 2 of Painted Turtle's ciders (Cranberry Craze & Heartseed Berry) over the last month when we ate at 2 different Holland restaurants. We really enjoyed their primarily dry ciders bursting with fruit flavor (especially Four Medley & Blueberry in addition to the 2 I knew we already liked). The issue with Painted Turtle is their high cost. They only had single cans available which were $7 - 8 EACH & no 4 pack, 6 pack, or cases available! They do fill growlers (64 oz) & half growlers (32 oz), but their glass cost for a new growler was at least $8. They will refill your own 64 oz growler (from anywhere) for about $20. We had forgotten to bring our empty growlers from home so we will need to take a trip back with them sometime we are in NE GR anyway. We did buy just a few cans before we left. Another bummer is that Painted Turtle does not sell their hard cider in any retail places. The person who served us tastings kinda scoffed when I asked her the question & replied, "oh, that's SO...
Read moreThis was easily one of my favorite places in the area. They had a bunch of animals outside that were very friendly, two cats as well as a dog (from what I saw at least). They didn't bother you unless you went up to them, they clearly live on the farm and are well behaved. The kitties loved being pet.
The cider was fantastic, and they had a great selection. They also had a nice store inside to shop from that was a nice visit. I hope this place continues to do well as it was a high point of my visit to the city. Everyone that worked there was very friendly as well. As far as breweries go it's one of my favorites that I've visited. A flight of four ciders to try was...
Read morePainted Turtle made a nice little stop as I drove through the area, and evidently many people agree. It’s a busy place, especially in the fall. I just tried their hard cider and a little ice cream, but what I had was good. Their ciders tend to be on the sweeter side, but they’re still quite good. Their hopped cider was very pleasant. The ice cream I got was apple pie-flavored and was fantastic. The staff seemed friendly, and the outdoor seating was comfortable enough. I’d stop by more often if I lived closer, but it’s definitely worth a stop if you find...
