We hired Jo Lei's to cater our wedding. We were beyond excited as the owner discussed a whole baked potato bar with us and let us pick all the toppings we could have wanted. We ordered enough for 150 people and discussed her bringing the food, setting it up to serve, and cleaning up the buffet afterwards. We had a decent amount of people inform us they would no longer be able to make it, bringing our guest count down to 110. We kept our original numbers with the caterer, excited to have a lot of leftovers for the next couple days as we settle back into reality after a stressful year planning.
Wedding day, we had 96 guests show. We fed 96 people with a buffet set for 150. Come the end of the night, I noticed all the food was gone and several guests were complaining they only had time to make it through the buffet once before she cleaned up EVERYTHING and left. Multiple guests said to us that they watched her carefully load multiple pans of food into her vehicle. I was a little preoccupied getting married, so I'm not sure how much she loaded up. But to have nothing left over? Seems unrealistic. To my understanding, we paid for the food and her service. To have her service and then HUNDREDS of dollars of food gone when there should have been plenty extra was wild to us.
Upon contacting her the next day, she said she threw everything away (unlikely as we looked in the trashes and only found a few scraps) and that all that was left were two pans of meat and 3 bags of potatoes. We are very frustrated that the food we paid for, for 150 people, fed 96 people and had little to no leftovers. We will not be using for catering again, and with concern for her plans on the leftovers we will not be...
Read moreTook a little afternoon trip to Vermontville to visit some of the Amish shops and decided to have lunch first at JoLei's. Quaint little do-drop-in. Nothing fancy by any means.
When we walked in we really weren't sure. But the place was clean and we still wanted to give it a shot because the reviews were so good. The lady that was working seemed a little bit off. Not mean or unfriendly, just seemed a bit down. But when we sat down she explained she just had surgery. Ahhh, that makes sense! She was also the only one working while we were there. After talking with her she was very nice!! So never judge, because you just don't know what people are going through.
We all had one of the specials on the board that day. I think there were 4 or so listed. Mine came with potato salad which I'm almost positive was homemade and it was delicious!! I also stole some of my husband's homemade chips. Mmmm mmm yummy. Prices were very fair and none of us could finish our plates so portions are generous.
If you're ever in the area, check them out. I don't think you'd be disappointed at all! I'd like to try them for breakfast...
Read moreMy husband and I stopped in here for lunch on Saturday. Never been before and weren't sure what to expect; it's quite small, but clean and cute inside. We both ordered burgers (his with fries) and an order of onion rings to split. 10/10. Everything was so good. I had no idea they did homemade chips, which were excellent. The onion rings were battered, not breaded. Burgers were big and juicy, fries were crisp and delicious, and everything came out hot. It was about $20 out the door for everything, which was very reasonable. My only complaint was it was a little slow. Took about 35 minutes to get our food, but it was Vermontville Day so I'm assuming the cook was busy doing...
