If you get nothing else here, get the pie. Everything was good though.
I was on a beach-ward drive on highway 30 from Portland. About Saint Helens I decided I was hungry. A little ways past that I decided I was very hungry. Without a lot of options I was discouraged, passing on the little shacks here and there and places that just didn't look like what I wanted. I saw a billboard about pie. I decided why not. That was an excellent decision.
I walked in and the sign said seat yourself, so I did. Promptly a girl brought me a menu. As soon as I was done picking what I wanted she was back to take my order. Clam chowder to start, turkey cranberry cream cheese sandwich for a meal. Two minutes later she was back with my soup.
The clam chowder was absolutely amazing. You would think being near the Oregon coast would mean there would be a lot of options for this kind of thing, unfortunately not so. Most places use way too much bacon. I could not taste any bacon in this. It tasted like real clam chowder with chunks of clams and delicious potatoes.
Pleased I moved onto the sandwich. The turkey was moist and fresh, the toppings were also fresh. The cream cheese was ample and so was the cranberry sauce. The fries were delicious. I was all around absolutely impressed. It was moist enough while not being wet.
The dining room itself was very small. You could easily hear what other people were talking about and some tables were louder than others which made it a little awkward. The waitress was aware of that and try to make it more comfortable. She was very good. It was cozy and quaint but in a good way. Exactly what you expect from a little diner on the side of the road.
At the end of my meal the waitress asked if I wanted their pie. Why of course. I was already full but why not. It was amazing. The pastry was delicate while being substantial, the filling was so good I wonder how people could do that. I wish I could bake like this at home. Every bite was absolutely scrumptious. And they serve it with some delicious creamy ice cream.
I highly suggest taking the time to make the stop here. And no matter what you get… Take my advice and try the pie. You will not be...
Read moreThe food was FIVE STARS as always but the server was terrible and rude. I'm not sure if I remember this person from previous visits but I'll never forget her now. Sadly the food is so good I was torn about the one star but she should be accountable for her choosing to be so rude and sloppy on purpose. Monday Feb. 11 we went to celebrate a birthday and choose the Berry Patch. We all new what we wanted from previous visits and were happy to be eating there again. We sat down n started ordering and waitress interjected her rude, un called for un soliticed opinion and insult of one of our lunch guest. We all looked dumb founded and tried to imagine what was the cause of her flippant remarks and rudeness. It went from bad to worse . If it wasnt her bad attitude it was her purposefully reaching across our table excessively attempting to drag her ratty sweater sleeve across our food. We literally picked up our plates when she bent over the table to avoid her droopy sleeve in our food. We couldn't figure out why she spent so much time at our table since it was obvious she didnt like us from the start. That changed though when we ordered dessert , then she disappeared and stalled to the point we had to ask her twice to get our dessert we ordered . It was a weird deal and not sure if she was new to the job or thought we were possibly someone else ....I'm not even going to try to imagine what her reasons were actually because it bothered me enough to want to forget it ever happened so I wasnt thinking about it the rest of the day. She wasnt a young person so should know better than to treat customers or people in general...
Read moreI've wanted to eat here for years, but am sad and disappointed. My 2 year old son is allergic to most dairy and all gluten, I asked the server if they had anything that could accommodate him. She very rudely replied with the fact that she knew nothing about gluten, so she wasn't sure. I asked if they could do eggs and bacon and she again was rude and wasn't sure, but would ask, because it was 11:45 and they stopped serving breakfast at 11:30. They ended up being able to do that for him, which was nice. I ordered hot tea and the clear glass container I received was disgusting. You could see from the inside of the container that under the rubber piece on the outside of the container was very filthy and moldy. I told the server and she didn't apologize or anything, and again was rude, but offered me just a cup of hot water. I gladly took the cup. When it came time to order food I asked what soup they had and what kind of greens were in the salad. She didn't know what the soup was and had to go find out and seemed bothered by my additional questions. A little bit later she waited on the table next to us and I heard her forget what the soup was again. We waited forever to be checked on once the food came, we had to go up and ask for boxes and a check. The food was decent, nothing spectacular, but by the end of everything, we didn't end up getting dessert. Hopefully the waitress was just having a bad day, and hopefully the dessert makes up for everything else. I'd like to go back for breakfast at some point and give them another chance, but for now this place deserves the less than...
