I've dined at Bella's or picked up take-out several times & have always enjoyed their food - until 2 days ago. My sister & brother-in-law came to visit for only the 3rd time in the 7 years I've lived in Bristol. My sister wanted a stromboli or calzone for dinner so I selected Bella's. Upon arriving, a very pleasant gentleman came out & went over the whole menu for us & explained it didn't really matter what we ordered because everything was good. We all opted for calzones. We all also added toppings above the 2 included. My brother-in-law & I added jalapeno peppers. My first bite, I was surprised at how many peppers I was crunching & figured I had hit a little pocket of them. The mushrooms & ground beef certainly weren't crunchy. As I began chewing the next bite, I realized there were just as many peppers. By now, my brother-in-law had discovered the same thing...there were more jalapeno rings in the calzones than the other toppings total. He removed the top dough from the bite he had just cut to eat & discovered 2 pieces of pepperoni, 1 mushroom & 4 jalapeno rings. The ludacris amount of jalapeno rings was consistent throughout both of our calzones. I ate them all & considered them a vegetable for the meal. My brother-in-law pulled off half of his & when he had eaten 3 sections, there was nearly a measuring CUP of jalapeno rings piled on his plate beside the one remaining section. If I hadn't ordered the calzone & was brought it blindly, I would have thought it had only one topping: jalapeno rings. I could NOT taste the ground beef or the mushrooms. I was beyond embarrassed having chosen the restaurant - much closer to mortified!! I only gave 2 stars because of how great the service was when we arrived & were brought our food. If I were to base it on just the food, it would be a negative number! I definitely would NOT recommend this restaurant anymore & I know I will not...
Read moreI ordered a 16’ pizza when I got home it looked small and I thought maybe they had given me the wrong pizza because there was no sticker or name. I measured it and it was 13’ so I figured they gave me someone’s medium because they are 14’. I called them and they told them about my pizza and they told me to bring it in and they’d figure it out. As soon as I walk in they start asking “ is that the guy that actually measured his pizza” while laughing at me. The man who I assume is the manager ( he was about 5’6 -5’8 and 270-300 lbs mid twenties or early thirties) asks to see my pizza and then rudely said we’ll go ahead and get out your tape because I think that’s 16’ , I said I didn’t bring it then I offered to show this picture and he said no I’ll measure it in a hateful and rude tone. Several minutes passed by they were all in the back laughing at it and I got some mean looks, he came back and said I can make you a personal pan or another large, I told him whatever he preferred I didn’t mind. My pizza is still open in the back the entire time and got cold he didn’t try to heat it up or anything yelled my last name once the personal pan was done and didn’t offer an apology or sorry for the inconvenience he just walked off shaking his head. Very rude and sad, this was my favorite pizza place growing up and the only complaint I’ve ever had, but the rude service and underwhelming pizza I will not be returning. I hope the man that was so rude learns to treat people with respect instead of mocking them with the other workers and being incredibly rude before that once wonderful pizza place is ran...
Read moreFound the best. Lived many years in some of the best pizza cities in the US. Since moving to this area not quite 4 months ago, I've tried pizzas from at least a dozen places. All have been middling. Even so-so pizza is better than most other food IMO so I have really enjoyed this little project. Drove 30 minutes to try Bella's at a co-worker's recommendation. The pizza was clearly better than every other pizza I've tasted since moving here. Crust quality tends to drive my opinions on pizza more than any other ingredient. Crust was excellent and the best of any I've tried since moving here. Dense and chewy while also a little yeasty. This pie was saucy. Lots of sauce. If you are often disappointed by a dearth of sauce on your pies, no worries here. Plenty of it. And it has an excellent tangy flavor. Venue is decent. Standard for the area. No pretentions. Spacious, comfortable and clean. Nothing fancy. The ordering process is more common here than in other places I've lived and visited. Order and pay at the counter and take a number. They bring the food to your table when it's ready. You get your own drink, plate, utensils, and take home containers. You're on your own for the most part. Not a bad system - just less common in my experience. The service, such that it was, was very good. Smiles and sincere helpfulness. I will definitely return. It won't be often given the distance but I come by this way once or twice a month. I will make it a...
