have been coming to Clarence's since I was 5 years old but tonight I received the worst service I have ever received which was no service at all. We came in at 8:00 p.m. when they close at 9:00 but we're planning on eating quickly and leaving as we have been on the road all day. After sitting down my husband overheard some of The waitresses talking about whether they were going to service use and are young daughter, or not sence it was 55 mins before closing. Then they proceeded to ignore us after getting us water. They served two other tables that came in 10 and 15 minutes after us,they even received there food. meanwhile we were still waiting on someone to even take our order, when the waitress gave us our water she sat it down on the table and walked away without a single word. The place wasn't even crowded we were one of four tables in our area. We walked out at 8:25. Apparently those tables were regular costomers but it was still wrong as we eat at clarence's every time we are passing through which is quite often, we live a few towns away. This breaks my heart as I've always loved this place I even came here with my papa who was a good friend of clarences and have many good memories here. Definitely not the place it was a few years ago glad my Papa doesn't have to see...
ย ย ย Read moreThis one pains me greatly. Every time we go to NC by Rte 220, Clarence's is definitely one of our favorite stops. Food and service have always been great. We waited and drove 2 hours just to get there and have a nice late lunch around 3:30 pm. When we were seated, all of the morning shift waitstaff was behind us at a large table, splitting up tips for the day.
I can not tell you how unprofessional it was to sit there and listen to them argue and attempt to do math at near yelling volume. When our server finally arrived, we asked for water an unsweet tea, and some hush puppies. We barely got the drinks and never got anything else. Our server was too busy arguing with another one and running back and forth to the manager complaining. After setting there and watching other people get their food that came in well after we had (about 40 minutes), I threw 5 bucks on the table to cover the tea, and we left.
For the last 25 years, that has been our stop to get great food and great service. This was reminiscent of an old Jerry Springer show. If I would had known this beforehand, I would have eaten at Sheetz across the street. It is really sad but I won't waste my time going back there again. 0 stars but can't leave...
ย ย ย Read moreTo start... yes the wait staff is the best part of the restaurant! It is only 2 miles south of the Martinsville Speedway. After reading mediocre review on "trucker path" which indicated more than gristle steaks, I went in. I ordered the seafood platter. After asking a number of questions, my order of boiled seafood (with the exception or the frozen fried stuffed crab, was put in. My server came back to ask if I wanted the shrimp calabash style or butterflies. Asking the difference... calabash was like fried popcorn shrimp and butterflied was butterflied. My meal came out... The oysters were small than the ones you get from a can, the flounder filet was smaller than my hand( at home that size is used to catch bigger fish; I guess I got caught), I Don't if they were Bay or sea scallops but at a diameter of a nickel they were tender and sweet, the butterflied shrimp came out fried...prompting the question... why was I asked which kind of fried shrimp I wanted! Over all... the food better than "long John silvers" but it could be a whole lot better if it was fresh and not from "food service company" as I was told when I inquired about it. Hopefully drunk nascar fans don't care what they eat in...
