This review is more about the Flea Market, but the cafe is very classic. A great Mom and Pop atmosphere. Down to Earth staff and very cheap pricing, especially in the days of inflation. They wander the Flea Market area on Saturdays and Sundays, too, taking orders.
The Flea Market has been there longer than I have. I've only been selling there off and on for about 2-3 years. Others have been there for nearly 2 decades. There is literally something there for everyone, and there is always room to haggle.
The cafe area keeps its own hours, and there are several small businesses that are open daily inside the building.
The Flea Market itself is separated in plots for people to sell at. As of this writing, a 10 foot space is just $10, and 20 foot space is $15. They rent tables too, both 6 foot & 8 foot tables but their conditions of the tables have gotten pretty rough and lots of them need replacing or repairs.
Come early, especially in the spring through the fall. It's mostly first come, first serve at the Flea Market, but there are many permanent vendors who sell outside year round.
Cash speaks loudest here. Some sellers may take electronic forms of payment, but the Flea Market is mainly cash the cards, and maybe even app pay is accepted at the cafe and inside...
Read moreI just had one of the best breakfasts ever: two perfectly fried pork chops, four perfect eggs over medium, sourdough toast, and the best fried potatoes ever. The sweet tea is on point, also. High quality food prepared perfectly. The servers could say "Hello" when you arrive rather than leave you sitting and finally utter an abrupt "what can I get you to drink?" Otherwise, a great visit.
UPDATE My card was overcharged by my waitress, but only by the change. I told her to make it an even twenty, which would have made the tip $4.38 or 25%. She made the charge $20.62 to make her tip an even $5. That is crooked and she will not be waiting on me again. I returned for a second go at the exact same breakfast. Pork chops were cooked to death and the potatoes were unseasonably. Complete opposite of first visit. The waitress explained that the amazing meal that I had first was prepared by a different cook. I remember her face as I made a point to meet and tip her. She should be telling the others...
Read moreUsed to love this place, as a transplant to the area it was our go to on saturdays to shop at the market and eat, however, its very much a game of waitress lottery at the cafe, if you are lucky enough to get one of the nice waitresses, its a decent experience, but candace H ( waitress with tattoos up her arm) is awful. We went this week, unfortunately sat in her zone and will never go back. Everytime she has been our waitress its uncomfortable, shes overly friendly to the husbands, she is overly sarcastic and rude to the women and its very noticeable. She makes the entire dining experience very very awkward. We got our food and it was soaked in grease, the soup was cold like it came from the fridge. We literally left without eating. It seems candace feels she can speak to and treat people however she wants, i would recommend you save your money for the coffee cup cafe in Lynchburg, better food, very very friendly staff... All around...
