Great tasting tacos with a fine experience. The ones I tried were the Asada (steak), Pastor and Chorizo tacos.
The steak tacos had very tender meat with a good size portion of it. Very flavorful and well seasoned all around. Good well-rounded taco that you can't go wrong ordering it.
The pastor tacos were also very flavorful with good seasoning. The pieces of pineapple did not make it overly sweet. There was a good balance. I don't generally like pineapple with savory foods but didn't mind the combination with these ingredients.
The chorizo taco was my least favorite. It had a distinct flavor that I did not particularly enjoy. Had a hint of curry or something with a similar taste. The meat was too dry and wasn't pleasant eating. Next time I will skip this one a go for another type.
The rice and beans were well prepared. The hot sauces were delicious had a good range between the medium and hot.
Two things that I would improve are these. Have a better more welcoming layout of the dining area. There are two smaller random tables in the middle that if you sat there you'll be the center of attention. I would say having some booths in the middle would add to a more personal area without calling attention.
Also, I would recommend NOT having the same spoons other use for the hot sauces. They're like community spoons that everyone uses while eating and seeing the finger prints of others is unappetizing. Bring the sauces to the table in their own dishes without sharing these dishes with others. Small dishes with some sauce would be fine.
Overall it was good experience with good tasting food. I would definitely come back and eat here again. I would recommend...
Read moreWe lived in San Diego for 12 years and have been looking for that authentic taste ever since we left. Some places have made a good attempt and a few are pretty good substitutes, yet no perfect. When we saw the sign go up, we got a little excited that maybe a new contender was opening soon! After today I can say we have a new place to eat that goes a long way towards satisfying that search!
I got three tacos: the Chancho (pork belly), the Asada, and the Birria Quesataco. All three were excellent but the Chancho is fantastic! New favorite! My wife got the flautas as a meal and loved them! No dry chicken here!
The service was friendly, quick, and attentive. The food was fresh and tasty, full of flavor! The salsa was great, not some tomato sauce pretending to be salsa. They have a couple of sauces you can ask for. The red chili sauce was the best I have had, anywhere! Obviously, as a chili sauce, it has some bite to it, but as a habanero fan, this was not hot. There's heat but also layers and layers of flavor that will please any chili sauce lover! I had the Hibiscus Aguas Frescas with all this and it was delicious. I can't wait to come back and continue down the menu. Somebody here knows how to cook!
The move from food truck to standalone restaurant doesn't always work. There are a lot of things trucks don't have to worry about. I really hope this move succeeds. It...
Read moreI was excited for this place to open since i drive by the location all the time. I happened to stop in on the opening day. The servers were friendly but other than that - not impressed. I’ve traveled throughout Mexico and grew up in Los Angeles and none of this is street food. I really wanted to like this place but the food was bland, tortillas tasted like they weren’t cooked and they didn’t have what regular taquerias have ….salsas. I ordered al pastor, chancho and a birria taco along with rice and beans to take home. The al pastor meat was tough, cut in chunks so it’s clear a topo wasn’t used to shave the meat off; the chancho taco was the only one that had a some flavor but it wasn’t anything exciting and the birria taco was disappointing. The beans didn’t even have seasoning and the rice had over cooked frozen vegetables. They didn’t have horchata, which is a pretty typical agua fresca at any taqueria and one they said they offered.
For being opening day I thought the vibe would be fun but instead it felt like a lonely highway low grade sports bar. There was a group of teenagers shouting at a soccer match and they killed the vibe more than the plain and non-vibrant walls and bland food.
Maybe this was a very very very soft opening? This won’t be my neighborhood taco spot, which is a bummer since I am a fan of supporting...
