significant disappointment. Im hoping this was just my experience and others get better. I chose to stop here on our way to DC. Picked a hotel close specifically because we found this on google maps and saw how cute it was. Unfortunately this was a bad experience. The service was poor, the food was decent, the setting was good. Our server stated she was very busy, but the dining hall had 4 other tables seated and there were at least 3 servers. There were people outside (approx 20 if I over estimate), but only one couple was eating. Im not sure why she was so inattentive. she did seem rushed. She forgot to bring us rolls, she stopped by one time after the food was dropped off and I couldn't finish my sentence before she had walked off. The drinks are a little larger than a shot glass. so when she came over and asked how everything was, she literally turned as I said "good". in the same breath I was asking for a refill. but she had already walked away. I have never seen anything like it in my life. She never came back. we ate our entire meal and sat for 7 min after we were done. no drink refills, no rolls, no attention, nothing. I had to walk to the cash register to pay my bill. Im just so disappointed. it literally made me sad. There was no excuse for her not stopping and making eye contact. there were barely 30 patrons and at a minimum 3 servers. what was she so busy running off to do? John Moore, the server will remember me, because I told her I was very unsatisfied and didn't take the desert she tried to give me when I was walking out 7-10-22. I asked her to check me out and seemed shocked I wasn't pleased with the above stated service. She did a great job remembering the order without writing it down, cute server trick. but she didn't bring us rolls, nor did she refill our drink. and as a business owner, you really should have your servers check in on patrons to keep up the beer sales. You have something special, the setting is great, the food is as expected. maybe check that potato pancake recipe, Im sure your grandma loved her...
Read moreI donʻt know what I just experienced. I really wanted to like this place. We actually made a special trip to this restaurant based off of the high reviews. I feel like the food felt mostly reheated. The bread was not fresh. Hard like a rock. The pretzel was a bulk store bought microwaved pretzel. The potato pancake was not fresh. Definitely seemed frozen, then thawed. Not even re-pan fried. Just reheated in a microwave. Rubbery almost. Iʻve had fresh potato pancake and itʻs a world of a difference in flavor and texture. Ordered the German Sampler as our main dish. Nothing about the German sampler was good. The meat all tasted almost canned. Even the two cabbage side dishes did not seem freshly made. Itʻs bottled or canned, then served.
Iʻm not sure how far in advanced they make the food, but it was not great. The star of the dinner should have been the meat dishes in the German sampler, but all 5 meat dishes, including the fried items did not seem fresh. All just seemed scooped and plopped. And the fried food, somehow reheated after sitting. Ugh.
Seemed like it would be such a great experience, but I felt let down by the food. Our server was very nice. The beer my husband tried was great. The atmosphere was homey, but it felt a bit dank and dirty. The gal who bussed tables made a ton of noise cleaning the tables. Iʻm not sure if sheʻs aware that she doesnʻt need to throw each dish in the bin so that it clangs so loud it sounded like she was tossing every dish on the ground.
When we went, there was just a handful of tables. Quite slow. The server was quick once we ordered, but we were really let down by the food. Even the sides were a miss. I was especially disappointed by the noodles. Iʻve had other German noodles when it was made fresh and there is such a difference in flavor.
Maybe my expectations were way too high based off of the reviews, but I am confused as to how these reviews can be so high based off of the day we went. Bummed we...
Read moreWe made a reservation several weeks ago for last night at 5:30pm for a group of 10 people. 8 of the 10 people had arrived on time and we were standing inside waiting to be seated. We were told that they could absolutely not seat our party until everyone had arrived. The absent couple had not arrived yet because they had an emergency and were going to be another 15-20 minutes late. We explained this to the staff but they would not let us sit down. After another 10 minutes or so, they had the audacity to tell us to go wait outside because we were in the way of the staff who were working. There was no real waiting area inside for their guests. It was 38 degrees out in December. Meanwhile, our table was prepared for us and sat empty. We then went outside in the cold and tried to figure out how long it would be until our other couple got there. One person ended up not being able to come, so then it was only going to be 9 of us. We let the staff know, and they told us that they would seat us once the 9th person in our party arrived ONLY if another party of 10 people hadn't arrived before then. If that happened, they would seat the other party and we would be out of luck. This all transpired over a period of 25 minutes or so. We eventually just decided to take our business elsewhere are they were so rude and unaccommodating.
If they would have sat us and began serving the 8 of us, we would have been spending a lot of money ordering appetizers and drinks while we waited for the 9th person in our party to arrive. I fail to see any reasoning behind their logic. We were all very excited to eat here, but instead were very, very disappointed and honestly angered. I will never be a patron of this establishment, nor will I ever recommend it to...
