Hello my name is Lesly. I was recently at the location at 2238 John Rolfe Pkwy Henrico VA 23233. We came to town because we play semi pro football for the Harrisburg Havoc women's semi pro football team and had a game in this town. We are a mixed group of friends some more pickier than others. However we picked this small but welcoming restaurant and little did we know how amazing our visit would be. From Sam to Jen and another waiter named Jen but goes by Jay. They were amazing even from the phone call. We called ahead before entering to check for wait times and there was just something about this particular place that was welcoming! Once in we started noticing the small things that make this small location very unique. From the egg counter on the wall, to the decor that says let me make you smile and this is my happy place! Not to mention the absolutely Kool egg illustrations the says and have different emoji's for different egg types. It put us in a very calm and relaxed state mind on top of the great service. Sam took care of us the first time in and was very polite, suggested the banana French toast for my wife that she ended up loving. She stayed with a positive attitude even when they got backed up a little and everyone in there looked like they enjoyed their job made us feel comfortable. Even with the kitchen backed up we couldn't tell because she continuously checked on us even had a small Convo with us as well as the other server Jay and jen. And when Sam couldn't make it to us another person (Jay) came and checked on us to make sure we didn't need nothing or for refills. The food was great, I got the three egg special with eggs over easy and turkey bacon it was good. The biscuits there that they grill omg amazing, and the potatoes OMG! They were just perfect. Others in our group had scrambled eggs that said we're good and the veggie omelette was good as well. We enjoyed our experience so much we came back in the next morning for the what we hoped was another great experience and yes it was. Again the welcome from when you first come in to seating and ordering, it's just a great place and if I can do anything to share with you about this location is that this particular location has a great staff and great company moral. The way they help each other work efficiently with each other helping as a team shows great leadership to whomever runs this location. I would recommend this to anyone in this area. It's a 5 out of 5 stars for myself and our group. Sam and the ladies made a great impression of Henrico, VA on us. If I could say something to them I'd say don't change a thing! You guys have a great system there and the love for what...
Read moreUpdate (5/16/22): I reached out to the owner 12+ hours after posting the below review. He openly acknowledged the restaurant had issues yesterday (the day of my visit), and said he would work with the staff to ensure a good dining experience.
Original (5/15/22): Ended up leaving after we had already been at our table for an HOUR with no food. At 1 point during our hour-long wait I noticed that only 1 table of customers had actually been served their food— the other 24 tables of customers were WAITING for their food.
When I asked the manager what was going on, she said they had a lot of to-go orders to fill—- that was why only 1 table in the entire restaurant had actually been served their food. She said our food would be out soon. Still had not received our food 30 minutes later, so we left.
At no point during this entire hour-long wait in which my table and the other 24 tables had ZERO food did the manager walk around and offer crackers, muffins, a piece of bread to ANYONE. (My specific party was myself and my 2 elementary-aged sons.)
A table of 4 customers who arrived at the restaurant and was seated at the restaurant BEFORE my party of 3 even arrived to the restaurant STILL had not gotten their food (or a cracker, toast, muffin, etc.) when we finally left.
And we were not the 1st customers to leave. A couple at their own food-less table got up and left 25 minutes prior to my party of 3 leaving. They had also already been seated prior to my party even arriving at the restaurant.
(We got there at 9:30am. We were seated at 9:45am. Ordered at 9:55am. And we ended up leaving at 10:45 am. No food. Zero. Nothing.)
The only reason this isn’t a 1 star review is I have eaten breakfast at this specific location on 3 other occasions and while the service these 3 other times was slightly slower than expected, it wasn’t nearly as long as this most recent time. Also the servers are usually friendly and the food is usually pretty good. As well, 12 hours after I originally posted this review, the owner acknowledged they had issues yesterday (the day of my visit) and would work with staff to fix them. I truly hope the owner, manager and staff all learn from this really bad experience they provided to me and my 2 kids, plus all of the other customers who chose to dine at their restaurant in-person yesterday...
Read moreThis past Saturday morning, I went there with 2 of my brothers. My brother Ray, who happens to be black stood there for 10 minutes with no greeting from a hostess, or even a waitress saying “sit anywhere.” Nothing, until about 3 minutes after I walked in, then the waitress yelled out “just sit anywhere, guys!”
Not a great start to our first visit to a restaurant. It’s easy to project intent on people, and it’s not fair. So, I will not say that was racially motivated, but as the only person of color in the restaurant, it can make you feel that way. And it does tend to look that way. Not a good look.
This was strike 1!
Anyway, the place was very clean and the waitstaff were very nice.
I ordered eggs, bacon, a waffle, and some cheese grits.
First the eggs: The “meal” came with 2 eggs, and I asked for a third. I asked for them scrambled with cheddar. They came out rather dry, lukewarm, without cheese, and my extra egg was on a separate plate. Ugh… Strike 2!
The bacon was crispy, the way that I requested that they be! Great job! It would’ve been hard to come back from messed up bacon!
The waffle was also rather dry, and didn’t have butter on it. At least I could rehydrate this a bit with the syrup!
Then the grits… The grits were a bit soupy, and there was very little cheese in them. This was strike 3 for me!
Then I was charged extra for the cheese I did not get in my eggs. I won’t be returning, which is a shame because it’s so close...
