3/23/25 Still the best Mexican restaurant in the Stafford/Fredericksburg area and we have a bunch of them!
It's very clean and the Mexican decor is nice. Booth seating is very comfortable. The staff were attentive and the menu extensive with offerings not found at other restaurants in the area. Dos XX on tap is excellent! The Quesadilla Veracruz was very good. Grilled shrimp & scallops cooked correctly. The Carne Asada was also very good as was the chorizo topped queso dip. The only thing that needs to change is the salsa served with the chips. No taste. The chips were good. Much much better food than El Grande Squirto.
*6th visit. Packed for Cinco De Mayo today. Salsa has improved. Entire meal was great. We are working our way thru the entire menu.
*7th visit. Lunch Chimichanga was excellent and packed with beef.
*Note this review was completed without using ridiculous undiscriptive terms like out-of-bounds, OMG, on point, awesome, the bomb, yummy, delish, to die for, do your self a favor, trust me, etc.. Describe the food, service (or lack of) and provide details on the cost/copy of check and include pictures! Is the place clean? No one cares about the waiter/waitress names, or if they look like they fell face first into a tackle box. They get changed like underwear and you don't get to pick one. No we don't care about your allergies or the need for gluten free food.

Read moreThis was our first time dining at this restaurant, and I’m so glad that we finally tried them out. Service was fast and friendly. And the food was so delicious. Very well seasoned. Nice portion sizes, not too little, but not over the top too much. The red salt that comes with the chips was very mild so we requested salsa Verde, which we were charged for, but that’s OK. I chose to order from the combo menu for lunch, which was a crunchy beef taco, and a chile rejeno. The Reno is one of the best that I’ve had in a long time. The out side of the chile was battered and crunchy, which contrasted beautifully to the chile inside the crust and the gooey cheese. My beef taco was nice and hot and super crunchy with just the right amount of cheese and lettuce. I added a little bit of the mild salsa and it took it over the top. My husband ordered the nachos Texanos for appetizer and the enchiladas nortenas for his entrée. The enchiladas were very tasty! The corn tortilla was not too soft and not too stiff. It was just the right texture and the steak and onions that they served on top was divine. The only downside is that our entrées came to the table before the appetizer nachos. We had a few bites of them, which was absolutely delicious, and took them to go. The shrimp and chicken was cooked very well not too rubbery or stiff. The seasonings and sauces that came with the meals was very nicely seasoned with just the right amount of heat. With that my husband had an unsweet iced tea and I had a DOS XX Amber. I think the prices are extremely reasonable. We walked out of there paying $44 for all this food. I would highly recommend this restaurant! It was the closest to authentic Mexican food that I have tasted in a while from the seasonings to the preparation to the...
Read moreThis was our second visit. I want to like this place. It comes highly recommended as one of the better Mexican places. Downside is the standard is pretty low for the area.
I can usually tell if a Mexican place is going to be good based off the salsa or queso. The salsa is essentially tomato paste with onion and a pinch of cilantro. The queso was disappointing, a white watery substance that didn't stay on the chip as you pulled it to your mouth.
Margaritas were OK for the price, more sweet and sour flavor than I prefer. The price was decent but would prefer maybe a higher price option for a decent marg.
We both did the pick three to sample a bit of everything. Everything was just meh, from the quality to the flavor. Nothing really stood out. The beef was a decent flavor, but most was bland and just OK. I'll say the prices are good for what you get at $13 for a good amount of food.
Service was good, though it was busy so we'd sometimes wouldn't see our server when we needed. Also, the atmosphere while busy can be on the louder side due to the smaller dining area.
Overall, while this place comes highly recommended and worth a try, I can't say it's the greatest either. Tailor your expectations and appreciate the prices and it may be worth the visit. Otherwise, your search will likely continue for a great Mexican restaurant...
