I have eaten at Sam's Hotdogs for years and have loved their food, but, a couple months ago I went by there at 4:30 PM to get food for me and my neighbors who now live at the Retirement Village. I got hotdogs and pork barbecue plus baked beans and coleslaw. When I got to my neighbors' place and unwrapped the hotdogs and barbecue sandwiches they looked strange. I tried to figure out what was infront of me and I realized the gentleman who served me must have scraped the dry stuff from the sides of the cooking pots because it did not look like chilly at all; it was more like paste, was all dried out. The pork barbecue had hard spots in it. This should have not been sold as eatable food. I was so embarrassed that I was serving my long time friends this stuff. I can not get that stuff out of my mind. I don't know if I will ever be able to eat at Sam's again. The man should have told me that he was getting ready to clean up and that the food was gone. I'm guessing that greed made him sell me something so bad. The beans tasted like they were straight from the can. This bad stuff cost me $27.00. Such a waste of my money; I am on a fixed income so can't afford to throw money away. I don't understand why a person would think it's ok to sale something like...
Read moreFantastic service, quality interactions with staff. The owner is a full time operator, is always happy to see returning customers, and is personable without being overbearing. Food was out before we expected, super fast service. It's window service only, but there are some tables outside where you can eat, or just park your car and eat in there, true to what I have come to expect from Sam's: fast, friendly, and convenient. French fries are better than McDonald's, and they do a killer bacon cheese fries side. Flurries and shakes are awesome too, the raspberry and coffee flavors are a must! Super thick and delicious, better than Dairy Queen at half the price! Overall, I highly recommend...
Read moreI've been curious since we've passed the place coming to and from Richmond to Clifton Forge up 340 and down Highway 11. Today, we stopped in. If you're in the area, it's worth the stop. Service was quick. The hotdogs and chili were excellent, and we'll be back. A six pack of hotdogs all the way was only $13 and change. The buns were steamed. The hotdogs were juicy with just the right resistance when you bite down, and the balance between the various condiments was near perfect. Hotdogs seem simple, but there is real craft in everything being balanced and mouth-happy right. If you are heading down I-64 or I-81, it's worth the detour....
