If you find yourself stuck in the unfortunate existence that is Virginia Crossings, at least you have a place to forget your worries.
The Tavern Grille is what you would expect from a mid-tier hotel. A menu that is safely down the middle of the road, no surprises, and priced surprisingly reasonably for being inside a hotel property.
That said there is a distinct disparage between the kitchen and staff.
In opposition to my normal reviews I'll list the cons first, as I feel that the pros are more than enough to cause a change for the better in the back of house.
Cons: The food. No really, the food. The chef either has no staff to build out a menu to match the clientele, or is sorely inexperienced. I would put this as 'overpriced burger joint' for the majority of the food. Somehow meatloaf was both charred and mushy, asparagus was overcooked and burnt, the CHICKEN WINGS ARE BREADED, and the steak is guaranteed 2 shades more destroyed than you ordered. Most other dishes are heavily overcooked, over-salted, and generally unpalatable. As of this review (Q2 2022) it's difficult to recommend this restaurant even with the Hilton credits.
Pros: The Staff. The staff is amazing in the restaurant. Kenneth as the manager is there to make sure everything is as it should be, and makes SURE that any problems are taken care of quickly and without drama. Not to mention being a fantastic conversation starter and knowing how to treat even a short term customer. Kevin behind the pine pours a fantastic drink and also hold a great conversation that may or may not end up in you spending more than anticipated. Denaja and Tia are absolutely fantastic bartenders and servers and will guarantee that even the worst day ends up a night you can look back and smile on.
In general The Tavern Grill(e) needs a kitchen staff makeover to match the exceptional bar and floor staff. This restaurant is right on the edge of being a 4 or 5 star recommendation, but either the kitchen staff or management is holding back from that final extraordinary push. I'd love to try this place again, but it seems COVID has become a crutch...
Read moreVisited The Tavern while at the resort for a weekend conference, and received terrible service. Operating hours were not as advertised; our group of 4 had arrived early, as we had an event to attend that night, and decided to go ahead and get our seats for the 15 minutes until opening. Our server took our drink order in decent time, but brought the incorrect order, and didn't take our food order for another 15 minutes. Once placed, it took us over an hour to get our food, even though other patrons/groups that came in after us were served and got their orders well before we did. When asked, our server responded it was because we were such a large group (there were FOUR of us, and a group of six that had entered after us had been served and had eaten). We then asked for our orders to go so as not to miss our event; it took an additional 15 minutes before we received it, and it was incorrect and had no forks to go with it. In the meantime still more groups after us received their food, and our server checked in with the other tables, but never came back to check on ours, even though we needed drink refills . Eventually, we flagged down another server, who immediately fixed our order and refilled drinks; and after all this, our original server brought our check and had added an 18 percent service charge.
The restaurant is unfortunately one of the few options for food available at the resort, and the food itself, while decent, did not live up to the menu. The staff were clearly working hard, and the others who helped us fix our orders were very polite and professional, but would no recommend...
Read moreIm sure the resort itself is lovely, but I met my parents for dinner at the Tavern and it was terrible. The service was awful. We came in and sat down and were given water in these tiny glasses and a jar to refill them with. We were then ignored for a long time. When we finally were able to place our order it took like 30 minutes to get our food and they werent even busy at all. We ran out of water before we got our food and never got more. The server even looked at it like 3 or 4 times and checked on us and still no water. They were really attentive to the people who ordered alcohol. The food was not at all impressive either. My sandwich was absolutely nothing special and my dads nachos were nothing to write home about. My mom got the crab soup and she said it was incredibly salty. This restaurant needs help for such a nice resort. I guess they make their...
