My husband and I have been coming here since it opened. Throughout the years the quality of food has slowly declined. It has been a few years since we last tried and several people told us that the food was good. We thought we would give it one more try for my daughter's birthday dinner. I wished we went somewhere else. The waitress did not wait to see if any other appetizers needed to be ordered after I ordered the German pretzel. I said German pretzel and she was off. Then when I wanted to substitute turkey breast meat for corned beef in the Reuben sandwich. She said they couldn't do that. I asked why since they made a sandwich with roasted turkey breast. She gave me slight attitude and said she would ask the kitchen. She later came back and said "we don't have a Rachel on our menu and that is why I said we couldn't do that but the kitchen will do it today". What does it matter what I substitute out? They have other substitutions options on the menu why couldn't I do that? What if it was an allergy issue? Would I get attitude then? So the food comes and my sweet potato fries were cold and over salted and the honey sauce it comes with is disgusting. My son's chicken tenders were inedible because they were over fries and burnt and dry. The sauce that came on my daughter's salmon did not go with salmon and the fish didn't taste fresh. Finally, my husband's Hubie burger was bland. Salt and pepper is all it needed. We didn't want to send anything back because she already gave us attitude and did not want further retaliation. On the positive, we got our drinks and the appetizer quickly and my " Reuben", aka Rachel, was delicious. They should add the Rachel as an option on the menu. The German pretzel with dipping sauces (cheese and horseradish mustard) was good as well. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, but very loud. In short, I don't know why Hublersburg Inn has such high ratings. We will not be...
Read moreLet me preface this all with a brief note. I've heard amazing things about this establishment, their food and their service. I do believe that we may have visited on an off night. We went to celebrate our Grams 83rd birthday on a Sunday evening at 5 pm. I had a waiter recommended dish of their cheesesteak. The meat was over cooked and chewy the Spicy Garlic Ranch sauce wasn't a complimentary flavor for that sandwich in my opinion, but it is a tasty sauce on wings. I also got the sweet potato waffle fries, they were AMAZING! My boyfriend got the wings and the skin was really chewy and tasted a little undercooked, but the spicy honey mustard sauce was good! I got my 2 year old daughter the cheeseburger and fries with apple sauce. They didn't have any applesauce but the waiter tried to offer a substitute and I declined. The bun on the bottom of the burger was cut in an octagon like shape, unlike the top which was a normal bun top and the bottom bun was hard, like they cut off some bad parts and tried to butter the bread and cook it on the flat top to pass it. The birthday girl had Fish and Chips with Coleslaw. She offered me a bite and to me the fish batter had a slightly chewy texture and it tasted as if the the oil in the fryer was a little overused or infused with too many other flavors. Our waiter was pleasant, helpful and humorous. He did a excellent job with our larger party. The kitchen got our food out in a very timely fashion and most dishes were good as per my family. The CRAB CHIPS and charcuterie were excellent and the overall vibe, cleanliness and company of staff and customers seems great! Would definatley visit again to try some more...
Read moreBeyond disappointing! We went to the Christmas Eve brunch for a birthday and Christmas meal. We ordered the charcuterie broad, brisket, French toast, crabcakes with spinach, and a couple of cocktails. On the positive, the charcuterie board was a great starter. The local cheeses were wonderful, a little lite on the lox and sausage, but very good. The crabcakes with spinach was a delight and very well put together. I've had various briskets across the country over the decades, but I have no idea what they call brisket. The serving was five extremely fatty soggy pieces of "meat". One piece was nothing but fat, can't imagine how that could have been plated. The "meat" consisted of four bites of chewy fatty meat. The liquids from the meat watered down the egg yokes creating a watery soup that mixed with the undercooked diced potatoes. The French toast was equally bad. It consisted of soggy bread with too much oil and no golden brown egg coating. Essentially inedible. Normally I would have sent the brisket and French toast back, but after we finished the charcuterie it took 40 minutes to receive our meals. We were just ready to leave and write off the meal. If you're going to serve a special holiday meal, either nail it or stick to your usual menu. We won't make a second visit to the Hublersburg Inn. Except for the crabcakes, it was a disaster. The Waffle Shop is a better value and it won't...
