Docs Place — Restaurant in Wall Lake

Small town eatery. Some places like this you go to are must haves, and some are just ok. To me, this place was just ok. Service was decent, but not stellar. Had to ask a few times for things that should be just given or available.

The cheese balls were good, but aside from someone frying with old grease, it’s hard to go wrong making those.

The meals themselves were basically what you would make at home after coming home from buying in the frozen section at Walmart. Premade burgers and patties with a standard cheap consumer bun. Nothing was bad, it’s just everything was very inexpensive low budget items that a person could buy and replicate at home and be just as good and happy. This being said, there is something to said about not having to cook and getting an adequate meal. However, to me, I prefer to feel I am getting a better quality for something I am going to go out and pay for. The type of places that you wish to return to, because the food was just that good. I’m personally not super excited to go back to places that leave me feeling like “Well, it’s the only place in town, and I guess they do ok”.

So for me, I would be ok eating here again if someone specifically wanted to, or to meet people half way in a ride because it was convenient etc., but I also would not make it a point to intentionally come back over some other nearby options I could chose to...

Service was great...food was not!!! Definitely frozen (I had a breaded tenderloin) and bad enough I didn't eat more than that first taste!!! The crinkle cut fries weren't good either!!! The curly fries were all I ate (no complaints there). And they didn't accept debit cards??? In this day and age?!? Referred us to an ATM in the place that didn't work...had to go to gas station down the st. to get money to...

Good food, great prices, friendly service, clean, family owned. Cafe on one side and walk through to the bar next door. So bring the family or come with your posse. A stones throw from Blackhawk lake. Very nice for us locals and a nice day trip for those looking for a nice afternoon in western Iowa. I've been there many times over the years and never been...
