First off, I heard about a joint serving up upscale dishes in the small town of Walnut. I grew up near this area and it has always only ever been a drive through town, with not much reason to stop.
This restaurant "The Shed" will give many a strong reason to stop and eat like a king. The establishment seems newly built or renovated. This place is NOT a hole in the wall but something the owners should take great pride in creating. The location is easy to find. And once you are inside, it only gets better.
The bar itself is huge and showcases a vast array of many drinks to choose from. The food options within the menu seem to reflect a wide variety of food options for all. The downfall of this restaurant is maybe they have TOO many good options to choose from. What a great problem to have.
I opted for the Mac N Cheese infused with Pot Roast. This dish when it arrived, was piping hot. I was taken back by the crackers that came crumbled on top of it. It's the small things that can make or break a dish. I don't recall being asked if I wanted that on my dish, but glad I wasn't because it only added to the perfect way it was crafted. (So if crackers aint your thing, like tell your server). The whole dish was a win. So much flavor packed into such a simple dish, that by the time I was done - I realized this dish was anything BUT simple. It was enough for two people to split. The garlic bread that came with, was mind numbingly great. The side of chili I got, was full of flavor but for me, was a bit watery/tomatoey for my tastes ... but I wouldn't say it was bad.
The only real downside to this restaurant is volume/noise that never really gets absorbed by anything. It was hard for my brother, my mom and I to have a conversation or to hear each other. I don't know how management can change this. And I hate dinging a restaurant for this... but it is, what it is.
I applaud the owners here for the uniqueness of their menu and for giving those in this area such an upscale variety of food options to choose from. I can see this restaurant really being a greater success as more and more people find out about it. This restaurant was clean, well organized, had great flow to it and the server we had... I believe she said her name was Cody - did an amazing...
Read moreWe've been here twice. Once when they first opened, second time this past Sunday. Both times our food and service have been a little less than mediocre. Both times we went we got the pretzel for an appetizer with queso. 1st time the pretzel wasn't bad but they do not give you nearly enough queso for the size of pretzel it is. So our 2nd time we asked for an extra queso. The pretzel was awful!!! I'm not sure if it wasn't cooked long enough or if it was sitting out and stale but it was NOT good.
Service needs some serious improvement. Both times we have been there, it was lacking. I understood the first visit because they had just opened. Sunday, there was no excuse.
Our burgers weren't anything special. To be quite honest, I prefer a culvers burger over the burger I had here. My husband got the burger with pulled pork and he was very disappointed with the quality vs the price. I do have to say, their fries are very delicious! I was looking forward to having this restaurant in Walnut since my husband and I go kayaking in Walnut often. Unfortunately, I don't think we...
Read moreWhile my meal personally had no issues, it took a lot of requests to get what we asked for. One of our people asked up front for tartar sauce and extra along with it. No Tartar sauce arrived. When it came, he asked for the extra again. "Oh a little more?" "No, a lot more" he said. With the size of the fish, they should know that most people are gonna need more than 1 little ramekin. It was several things like that, not enough sour cream, tartar, forgot the lemon wedges ect. We try to save them trips by asking up front, but communication was bad. Another person's fish was under cooked but no offer of re-fire or discount was made. It was pretty dead on a Saturday night, so that should have been a red flag, but we were from out of town and relying on our locals for the venue. Closing said 10, but they were putting up chairs before 9 and making us feel very rushed to boot. $ to portion was also pretty rough. Not a place I would return to, but I have also...
