American Legion Post 167 — Restaurant in Ward Township

This place has the standard bar fare along with their daily specials. My husband and I went on a Friday night for the Friday fish fry as we heard it was good. We got there around 7pm and they were still serving. The big dinner rush was wanning and we were one of 4 tables. In other words, it wasn't busy. As we walked in, we saw only one waitress which isn't unusual for a place like this. While waiting for the waitress to come over and take our order, another group came in. We had been waiting for about 5 minutes at this point. Another 5 minutes goes by and we still hadn't ordered our food or drinks. The waitress finally makes her way toward us, only to make a beeline for the table that just walked in. Ok. Whatever. We got her attention when she finished the order for the other but she said she'd be right back. Another 5 minutes goes by before we could order anything. Turns out, you have to go up to the window to order drinks. It was our first time there and we had no idea. It would have been helpful if the waitress told us this as we walked in, after all, she looked right at us. So we ordered our food after 15 minutes of being there but I was already annoyed because she took the other table's order almost upon arrival. But whatever, moving on. The dining room has a sign that said no smoking allowed and that's great but the bar area, just beyond the dining room, does allow smoking. And there were smokers... lots of smokers. And you could see the smoke filled bar from where I was sitting so naturally it drifted into the dining area. I did get my salad fairly quickly which was good because I was ravenous but eating while people were smoking was a bit uncomfortable for me as I couldn't taste my food. The meal came out about 40 minutes later. I'm not sure what took so long as I stayed earlier, the dining room was not busy. I do not care much for the fish so I had ordered chicken fingers and mac and cheese. You can't really screw up chicken fingers so they were ok. The mac and cheese was homemade not from a box and I'm sure it would have been good if I could have tasted it through the smoke filled room. Pros were that there was still food left when we got there at 7 as sometimes they run out of the specials early. And my husband said it was good. Cons were service sucked and so did the smoking atmosphere. Didn't they ban smoking in buildings? I can't see myself coming back to this...

Amazing bartenders, super friendly, no drama, board member was awesome to help us, and the best food I've had at any American Legion anywhere. It was packed because they are consistent and stable with both food and hours. Talked with so many people and it is THE American Legion everyone loves!!! First time there. We came for the District meeting. Lunch was great, the roast beef was second only to my grandmother's recipe. I saw the two bartenders were super busy!! Had a great time...
