I've been reading all of these reviews, and in particular, found disturbing the harrowing episode involving Earl, the presumed owner of this establishment. I am a culinary trained chef who has extensive experience in also running restaurants. As such, I know the basic foundation to a good restaurant experience is hospitality. Simple as that. When the posted hours of operation stay clearly when the restaurant closes, ie, 9 p.m., at 8:59, the establishment should be open for business. At 9:01, the establishment has every right to say we are closed. Too many restaurants fall into the trap of allowing their staff to control management. Breaking down should not start until 15 minutes before closing time. Also, the attitudes of the employees should not fluctuate according to their pissy moods because they want to go home. Newsflash: you're there to serve hungry people, and you're still being paid your hourly wage, that's the long and short of it.
Earl should find himself a new line of work because obviously he is poorly suited to offer hospitality. If the restaurant is doing well and making money, then obviously Earl just doesn't care. If the restaurant, on the other hand, is bleeding money, then Earl should consider calling it a day and withdraw from abusing his customers. Only someone who is psychotically disturbed, would stare down their customers in such a menacing and uncalled for manner.
Speaking of disturbed, we had a very inadequate dinner there recently - The food was mostly overcooked and had a very slapped together feel. Our waitress was condescending and very insincere. When we gave feedback on our meal to the cashier, who was a hostile, smug woke insolent young woman proudly sporting a repulsively large nose ring more suitable for a steer, she gave us a scornful look and ask us what we did about it…as if it were incumbent upon us to fix the situation. We told her we let the waitress know and all the waitress did was shrug and say gee, sorry with her requisite insincerity.
The sad part is, the Peppermill does a good breakfast and they have a much nicer wait staff during that shift. Our breakfast waitress, Trinity, was wonderful and the breakfast was very good. I think Earl should consider limiting his operations to a breakfast. and everyone would be happier: no more late nights would automatically eliminate Earl's predilection for hatefully staring down truant customers.
Normally, I like to judge a restaurant for myself. Where the Peppermill is concerned, I wish I had paid greater heed to the buzz in the community as well as the Google reviews...
Read moreI hate to write this review but our whole experience almost from beginning to end was just one mistake after another.
I'll say our waistress who must have been training did try to keep her composure and stay professional.
Several of the mistakes we didn't bring to her attention as we just felt bad.
Steaks brought out with wrong sides and not cooked how we asked. Well done rather than rare.
All five of us were missing our 2nd side dish.
One meal didnt have the correct 1st side dish.
Tried to correct the steak mishap and end then brought out the wrong type of steak.
Third times a charm right? Nope the 3rd steak was SUPER rare when it should have been medium rare. We just asked for a box to take it to go. At this point we didn't want to go for a 4th time.
We were told that steak would be taken off our bill. It wasn't. The girl at the register was very dumb founded and stood there blankly telling us she didn't know what to do about it.
They did end up taking off the steak after the girl made a trip to the kitchen and chatted about it for a great length of time.
They offered 2 free desserts to the the 2 people that had their steaks messed up.
The wrong pop was brought out twice.
One drink was never refilled.
The meatloaf was raw. Pink on the inside. I don't think its intended that way.
While we could tell they were struggling and did their best to attempt to be polite, we still felt they didn't really seem sincere about it.
We remained calm and told them it was all okay.
I didnt want to ruin anyones night or make them feel bad.
However they can only learn by being told about their errors.
We have been there before for breakfast and no issues.
Again, not a horrific experience but not great either.
I would not come back for dinner but I'd give them abother shot...
Read moreWe probably won’t ever be coming back here which is unfortunate because this place is a memory I have with my great grandma. We went to breakfast this morning and before going I called in to ask if there was a wait for a table. A woman answered the phone and could not hear me on the other end. Before hanging up she says “fine I didn’t wanna f’n talk to you anyways” click. I call back again because we still wanted to eat. This time a man picks up the phone, I ask about the wait and then let him know what I heard from the girl that answered the first time. He immediately turned defensive telling me they get a lot of spam calls. I told him I understand that but there should still be a level of professionalism held. If she’s picking up the phone and saying that to every caller she can’t hear there’s gonna be a lot of customers hearing her say things like that. This man continued to argue with me so I asked if I could speak with a manager. He responded “I am the manager. I have another call on the line so goodbye”. I questioned if I wanted to go or not and this point but we did. We get in and sit down with our 1 year old and my husband asks the girl seating us if they have high chairs. She says “we don’t do high chairs on sundays” and walks away before we could say anything else. At this point we’re genuinely confused with the way this restaurant is being run. Our waitress kindly gave us an explanation when we asked and she was a great waitress. After all of that though we do not want another experience with this place. It was so uncomfortable...
