Nestled in a picturesque park-like setting, Ye Olde Mill is a family-owned gem that offers a perfect blend of history, fun, and of course, incredible ice cream. Whether you’re seeking a memorable day trip or a sweet escape, this place is the perfect destination.

The moment you step inside Ye Olde Mill, you’re enveloped in charm. The restored 19th-century grist mill stands tall amidst 20 acres of rolling hills, ponds, and lush greenery. It’s like stepping back in time, where a peaceful and family-friendly vibe envelops you. The outdoor areas are a haven for relaxation and enjoyment. Picnic tables, a playground, and a catch-and-release fishing pond cater to both kids and adults alike.

But the real star of the show is Velvet Ice Cream. With over a century of crafting premium ice cream, they’ve earned a stellar reputation. I savored their signature Buckeye Classic, a heavenly fusion of peanut butter and chocolate. Rich, creamy, and utterly indulgent, it was a taste of pure bliss. The flavor variety is impressive, with over 40 options to choose from, including classic favorites like vanilla and chocolate, as well as unique seasonal creations.

Indecisive dessert lovers like me will rejoice at the inclusion of samples. Before you commit to a scoop, you can indulge in a taste of the magic.

The ice cream parlor inside the mill exudes a cozy and nostalgic charm, adding to the overall experience. And for those interested in the history of Velvet Ice Cream and the Dager family’s four-generation legacy, the small ice cream museum is a delightful bonus. It’s a fun way to learn about the past while enjoying a scoop of your favorite ice cream.

To complete your visit, the gift shop offers an array of ice cream-themed souvenirs, perfect for taking home and sharing with loved ones. Velvet Ice Cream at Ye Olde Mill offers a delightful experience beyond just a sweet treat. The onsite restaurant serves a variety of lunch and dinner options. I savored their hearty and delectable Reuben sandwich, though I must admit that the food prices seemed a bit steep compared to the quality. Nevertheless, you’re truly paying for the overall experience, and in that regard, it’s an investment worth making. Just be sure to save room for dessert!

Families will find plenty of activities to keep their children entertained. Feeding the ducks at the pond and enjoying the playground are just a few options. However, I was disappointed to learn that the factory tours, which provide a behind-the-scenes look at the ice cream-making process, are only available on weekdays. Plan accordingly if this is a must-do for you. Additionally, Ye Olde Mill is a seasonal attraction, open from May to October, so ensure your visit aligns with these months.

A few practical tips: if you want to feed the ducks or utilize some of the smaller amenities, consider bringing cash. Visiting on a weekday can also help avoid the weekend crowds, especially during peak summer months or special events like the Utica Ice Cream Festival over Memorial Day weekend. The staff was friendly and helpful, but service in the restaurant can be slow during busy times, so patience is key.

Overall, Velvet Ice Cream at Ye Olde Mill is a quintessential Ohio experience that combines delicious ice cream with a charming, historic setting. It’s the kind of place that leaves you with a smile on your face and a craving for just one more scoop. I eagerly anticipate my next visit, perhaps trying the raspberry cordial or one of their seasonal sundaes. Highly recommended for families, couples, and anyone with a...

Five of us ladies came for the Mother's Day event. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, on a beautiful day. We appreciated the carriage ride, and the vendors that were set up, and the ice cream was really good, although lines were crazy long, and prices are high, staff is super friendly and of course ice cream is delicious! They had live music, but the guys stopped playing every 20 minutes or so and just hung out with I assume their family and friends for 10-15 minutes and then would play again, over and over. I'm hoping they didn't get paid to do this by the hour, cause I feel like they did more not singing than did actual singing. They sounded good though and we thoroughly enjoyed listening to them, it was just such a bizarre experience with them just getting up and leaving all the time and never saying anything. So I don't know if I would ever see this band again anywhere, but we appreciated that they did have live music for us. There's one huge con here though and that is the parking. They really need an attendant for these Festival kind of days, as people don't have the common sense to park properly. Everybody was parking along the sides of the driveway on both sides and only about a third of the cars fit in there that could have. Once cars started leaving, people with common sense started parking, pulling into the grass like parking stalls, and then suddenly a lot more cars could park. That was the only...

Velvet Ice Cream in Utica, Ohio, is a delightful gem that every ice cream lover should experience. From the moment you step inside, the nostalgic charm of the shop invites you to indulge in a sweet treat. The variety of flavors offered is impressive, ranging from classic favorites like Chocolate and Vanilla to unique creations such as Buckeye and Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip.

The quality of the ice cream is exceptional; it's rich, creamy, and made with high-quality ingredients that truly enhance the taste. I tried the Butter Pecan, and it was heavenly, with perfectly roasted pecans in every bite. The portions are generous, ensuring you get great value for your money.

What makes Velvet Ice Cream even more special is the welcoming atmosphere. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, eager to help you find the perfect flavor. The outdoor seating area is ideal for enjoying your treat while soaking up the beautiful surroundings.

Additionally, the history of Velvet Ice Cream adds a unique touch to the experience. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Velvet Ice Cream in Utica for a delicious treat and a memorable experience. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone...

Once you taste Velvet Ice Cream no other ice cream will compare. It is rich and creamy, and comes in a multitude of flavors. So many in the display cases that it takes a long time to decide on the flavor for that visit. You can do like my brother and get two dips, one each of two different flavors. And, it's not complete without being served in a waffle cone or bowl. Besides the ice cream, there is food, for a well-balanced dining experience. And candy! And souvenirs! Lots of options in the restaurant/ice cream parlor/gift shop. In another section of the building is the museum, which tells the story of ice cream making and the history of Velvet and Ye Olde Mill. Outside are tables and restrooms. More buildings, trails, stream and water wheel to explore. Ducks to feed. Places for memorable photos. And, lots of nature to enjoy. I have been to Velvet several times and it never disappoints. Some of the staff were not as warm and welcoming on this particular visit, but it just could have been that he was having a bad day. Hopefully, he can resolve his issues and bring a smiling face to customers in the future. It sure won't stop me from returning.

The ice cream and food here is simply incredible. Velvet Ice Cream is delicious, no doubt but it’s Ye Olde Mill that makes me love it all the more. They really don’t have to do it. It really is an expression of love for their community, Ohio and ice cream lovers in general. If you haven’t visited, head there now! Take the tour and explore; it’s worth the time! My only reservation is that the ice cream parlor/dining room is confusing for first time visitors. I sat and watched four different groups enter from the gift shop and gaze side to side, unsure of what to do or where to go. A couple signs would clear this up. For newbies: sit at a table if you want to eat. A waitress will serve you. If you just want ice cream, go through the line and take it to the patio. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.
