Stopped by on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to eat a late lunch. This restaurant was the only place in town. We walked up from the marina and were told the restaurant had no A/C but that we could eat on the deck outside by an unfriendly and discourteous old gray haired waitress named Margaret. There were umbrellas at each table that were folded down since there was a breeze. We asked if we could put up the umbrella but Margaret said "no", until we pointed out the only other couple at the restaurant had their umbrella up, at which point Margaret grudgingly agreed to let us put up the umbrella at our table so we wouldn't be roasting out in the hot sun. We should have left at this point because we could all feel a sense of animosity coming from her .
Margaret then told us we had to order online and told us how to get to their website to do so. After spending a couple minutes trying to figure out the protocol, we informed her we just wanted 2 Pepsi's, a beer, and a pizza. Could she just place the order, or write it down. She said "no, online only". After wasting a fair amount of time finally getting the order down, the website required you to put in your personal information like phone number, email address, etc. None of us wanted to do so and told Margaret. At this point she became even more ill-mannered and insulting as she said "Google knows all your information anyway", which may be true, but that doesn't mean we want everyone to know it. Her attitude was as if she was doing us some extraordinary favor even allowing us to eat there (although at $25.00 for a small 12- inch pizza, we didn't feel like it was really any favor). She then told us to leave if we didn't want to follow the directions. I was a little taken aback at this and told her I was going to write about my experience. She really became even more unbalanced at this point. Since she had already prematurely brought out the drinks (though we had never completed the online order) I asked for the bill for the beer my friend had taken a sip from. She again demanded I leave or she would "call the police". Crazy! I asked my friend if he could pay for his beer and I'd wait for him on the street. He gave her a card and she came back without a receipt. He told her he wanted one and she angrily went back and brought one out to him, (which is how we learned her name since it was on the receipt).
We never had the chance to try out the food and so can't say if it's good or not, but I could never recommend any restaurant, no matter how good the food may be, that has workers with such a rude and insulting demeanor, and outwardly hostile disposition towards...
Read moreOk so we arrive at Deer harbor on Sunday one of the reasons we stoped was for the pizza.Sunday's pizza was good service very slow.mostly self service. We stuck around another day and since island pie is the only restaurant close to the marina we went again We tried the pepperoni pizza suppose to be completely covered with cheese and pepperoni. NOT!! We were not happy.the pizza was dry hardly any pizza sauce hardly any cheese and yes you guessed it hardly any pepperoni. I asked to speak to the manager/ chef. I explained the issue and he agreed he offered to make me another pizza saying they were very busy and he was not overseeing the pizza makers.I was very satisfied he was going to make it right . Then the owner came to the table and said " that's our pizza " and said it at least 3 x. She argued with me rudely and was also arguing with the chief at our table she told the chef she disagreed with him about making us another pizza..well he told the owner they would discus it later.he made us another pizza the was it is supposed to be, excellent cheesy good amount of sauce and pepperoni. If it was not for him we would have walked out.his name is Bob we talked to him for about 30 minutes after eating he was an awesome guy. Now on The other hand the owner is not a restaurant person.whar ever happened to the customer is priority # 1. Well she is a scientist from Seattle has no clue how to handle people or run a restaurant she opened the pizza place in 2015. According to her mantra which is on every table she moved to Deer harbor for the beauty and thought it would be fun. Ah guess Again no fun owning restaurant even if you know how. I grew up in the restaurant business.enough said. The salad was very good the pizza Sunday night was good and after Bob made us the 2nd pizza it was wonderful . As far as I am concerned she needs to learn how to Not question a patron and make it right...
Read moreWe visited Deer Harbor for several days. We first went to Island Pie on a Wednesday. It was very busy and the service showed that it was. No real coordination on how to manage a busy restaurant. The owner chose to mostly visit with locals while the tourist majority were slightly ignored. Our server that evening was Greysee and she worked so hard that night while the rest of the staff leisurely went about not really doing much because there was no organization coming from the top. We came back Saturday night as the pizza is really good although extraordinarily expensive as islands are, but sat at our table for a long time early in the evening before they were busy and not even brought water. The owner was maybe 10 feet away talking to locals for a very long time about so and so who passed away and other restaurants in Olga Bay and how the tourists are such a pain. Even the self proclaimed locals at the next table apologized to us because we had to hear the complaints about tourists while we still hadn’t even been served water in the blazing sun after at least 15 min. They were embarrassed. The island clearly depends on tourists during the summer as the local who the owner was talking to even said how the island environment allows them to hibernate in winter as nature intended. We finally got our order taken and served but you could easily see the locals were favored. There really isn’t much except scenery in Deer Harbor (no hiking, no shops) so if you’re a boater as we are you might want to hit up Lopez or San Juan. They make a normal effort at minimum in their customer service, usually more. Seems like Orcas doesn’t need or want us. At least in...
