The Place ;~} For breakfast on Mud Bay since before time began.

Shipwreck Cafe's assumption of the place previously known as The Place felt like an untangling of crossed wires in the history of the area.

I'll explain:

Shipwreck Cafe was originally on Martin Way in Lacey and Shipwreck Beads located on Mud Bay Dr.

Shipwreck Beads then moved a few times before settling in Lacey where they opened a cafe inside their store. It was during this time that I worked at Shipwreck Beads and would regularly field calls for Shipwreck Cafe by people mistakenly thinking Shipwreck Beads hosted Shipwreck Cafe (their cafe was called The Galley.)

During this time The Place seemed to struggle with quality and consistency but still continued on as a staple of the Westside. With the future of The Place in question Shipwreck Cafe took over and for a brief time there were two Shipwreck Cafe locations before they closed the Lacey restaurant to focus on The Place location with many of the same faces from both The Place and Shipwreck Cafe.

If you're still following me after this ramble... While I lament the loss of The Place the transition to Shipwreck Cafe felt both necessary and welcome which shows in how they've settled in to continue providing good eats in a historical location.

They have done a remodel since last time I was there and everything...

The food was really good, and it was very nice to see the Gluten Free options! This stop and the food made my trip from Seattle to Long Beach more enjoyable! Everything was cooked perfectly, and the waiter even made it a point to tell me which sides were safe for me to eat.

It's pretty obvious they need a third person in the restaurant. I waited at least 10 minutes to be acknowledged, and 15 minutes to be seated, and there were only three other parties in the restaurant. They have a take out window with signs indicating you may wait a while, because the wait staff is serving customers inside. There were signs on the counter insisting, "Be nice to out staff. They deserve it!" It's not the staff's fault, but they were clearly overwhelmed.

Our party of 6 had 3 kids in it, and all three drinks were spilled, because there were no lids on the cups. We cleaned up 2/3 spills, but they insisted we leave one alone, and they would clean it after we left. This resulted in kids slipping and soda on my clothes from their feet. The waiter didn't even take our dessert order, he just wanted us gone.

Overall, I would go back for the food, but be prepared for a wait and be a little more aggressive about ordering dessert if you want it. They have a giant honey bun the kids were really...

DO NOT GO HERE! This cafe is aptly named because them trying to get my to-go order correct was a blooper reel of epic proportion. And unlike a good Captain, the owner immediately bailed on her crew when they did everything they could to try to help. The person she put in charge was sweet and helpful but the owner quickly disregarded her efforts to keep from comping my meal. She told me that the person who made that promise, that she put in charge, had no authority.

So, what was wrong with my order? I only got half of it because the new server was not trained enough to enter the order correctly. She also did not communicate with the chef either. She did not know how to pack things without it spilling over everything (marionberry cobbler EVERYWHERE !!!). I had to drive back to get things fixed after calling. Then I had to wait for it to get fixed again because it was still wrong. By the time I finally got to eat, my food was cold. I do have to say it was tasty but not worth the effort.

When I noticed that the charge was processing on my card, I called. The owner got nasty very quickly and I had to stop payment on the charge. I will not be going back here and will be telling people to steer clear of this restaurant because it is truly...

Second trip here and easily matches the quality of food and service of the first time. Opened a little later due to the cold weather and icy roads but we were close enough to the opening time that we waited in the car. As we rolled in we could smell the coffee and the grills warming up. Server was super friendly and attentive. Once again, the coffee cups never emptied past half full and our meals came out super timely. The wife opted for the meat lovers omelette which was LOADED with ham, bacon, & sausage. So much she couldn’t quite finish. My CFS, the gold standard of breakfasts, was done quite well and served with the perfect amount of gravy. They served both of our toast orders on one plate and it was a mountain of thick cut sourdough. The topper, though was the way my eggs were cooked. I had the most absolutely perfect over medium-well eggs EVER!! Whites were firm as was the edge of the yolk but still enough to dunk a corner of my toast. I think the highest compliment I could ever offer would be that if I were ever to own a cafe like this, I would do it EXACTLY the same!! I think the public agrees because the traffic in the front door was ridiculous.
