Crown Pizza — Restaurant in Waterford

Our family and friends have always liked Crown Pizza. Recently we have ordered takeout only. We visited last Sunday with our grandchild. The inside and outside have been renovated with ample parking. We were told to sit anywhere except for the first two long tables.They were marked reserved. We sat down a little later given menus and were brought our drink orders. The coffee was horrible. We flagged down our server after we could get her attention and asked for cream. We placed our order.My husband, whole belly clams, I ordered the fish, our granddaughter wanted pizza. We ordered her a small cheese pizza. The salad was fresh and the house dressing is always delicious. Crown Pizza was busy but no where near full. We later learned our server was the owner. I found myself apologizing each time I had to request something. We requested bread with the meals. It was brought stale and very hard. We asked for butter for our granddaughter again, flagging down someone. We received our food. My husband enjoyed the clams. He said they were cooked perfectly and delicious. My fish was great as well. Our granddaughter didn't like the pizza! She always likes Pizza. We finally got our doggie bags paid and left. We were disappointed in the service. Crown Pizza was always filled with helpful and friendly people. The best of the best. We didn't see any happiness or smiles here. We really wanted to give them 5 stars and unfortunately can't. We didn't go there for coffee or bread and could overlook that but we felt unwelcomed and not comfortable even though it is very clean and the decor was nice. We will make another visit. I went here just the other day with a friend and her family and it was a good experience. The waitress came over right away to ask about drinks (and when they didn't have coke zero in a fountain she offered me a bottle and a glass of ice which was nice) and then gave us a couple minutes to look at the menu, as soon as we were ready to place our orders she was right there. I got a BLT platter which came with cole slaw, onion rings and fries. The BLT was packed with bacon, the bread was perfectly toasted and it had just the right amount of mayo/veggies on it. I wasn't a huge fan of the onion rings because they weren't very big, nothing wrong with the taste. I'm just very picky about them so next time I'm getting all fries instead. However, the cole slaw was amazing. That's one thing I like to try at every restaurant that has it, I don't find too many places that I like it at but when I do I'm super happy. We were checked on multiple times by the waitress and we had great service. I also have to say that I like when Illianos in East Lyme couldn't renew their lease and had to close that Crown pizza was honoring gift cards from there. We will always come back. Food is awesome. Can I make a suggestion & I hope management sees this. Guys get some ventilation in there! Please. We usually get take out but have sat in a few times & the smoke killed us each time. The last was last night. It was so bad that we both had headaches & sore throats. Our eyes were burning the whole time. Of course your food is so awesome so we sat through it but it was very uncomfortable. I did get a fish grinder for take out there one night & it tasted like it was smoked. It was not burnt but tasted as if it were. I couldnt eat it. Our clothes still smell smoky this morning. Guys you have to ventilate better. You cant have people sitting & breathing in that type of air. Last night was bad. Have you had any other complaints about this? I cannot see how you couldn't.
