Our first time stopping by Portage Lake Parlor and we loved it! The food was incredible and we are looking forward to visiting again to play keno! #MidMichigan #MichiganEats #GoodEats

Deep in the sleepy little area of Portage lake (grass lake) you'll find this great restaurant. Plenty of parking, cold beer, and a great pulled pork sandwich after a day at the lake is nothing to take lightly. However it doesn't stop there. Say your camping close by and you want some food for you and your guests by the fire, this wondrous place sells pulled pork, slabs of ribs, and brisket by the pound. Get yourself a couple pounds of brisket to sit at your site with your family or even as quick meals for the weekend. Now, I know what you're thinking. Ok great restaurant, but what else they got? What sets them apart? Great outdoor seating, good music, games for the family, drinking games for your table, my little ones even got a prize from the waitress for finishing their food! Name another place that does that! We'll be going back for 3 day weekends just for this place. The prices weren't bad either especially for the kids. Grilled cheese and fries was $5. A small bowl of mac and cheese for the baby was $3. Can't beat that.

They have a limited menu right now but everything on it is *amazing*. This place is "Grass Lakes best kept secret" in my opinion. Try the Ribs, Wings, Brisket or Pulled pork sandwiches, tuesday is taco day, wed-sat they usually have smoked burgers and bourbon dressed meatloaf dinners, and if you haven't tried their sides; smoked broccoli, pineapple coleslaw, cornbread, smoked beans or mac and cheese theyre very, very good, and a very reasonable price. They also sometimes have other sides like garlic mashed potatoes and cheesy potatoes. They have vegan/gluten free options if you call ahead, and can sometimes make (accommodation)hotdogs for the kids. And they have newly rennovationated seating areas, indoor and outdoor.

I had the worst restaurant experience in my life here with a friend, and upon my friend contacting and reporting the treatment to the owner, she never even received a response. We love the intertainment, and since we had been there to hear it many times, were aware that the food service is excessively slow, so we were prepared for that. The young waitress took our order at 7:00. She brought me a mellow yellow instead of a coke, and realized it about 5 minutes later and asked did I want her to change it. I said no, it’s fine I like both. We were very hungry, and I had ordered cheese sticks asking for them first, along with s sandwich and coleslaw. My friend ordered broasted chicken. About 1/2 an hour, she stopped for a quick check, and I asked about the cheese sticks. She said she would remind them. At 8:15, she stopped back, asking my friend, what was it you ordered? My friend stated broasted chicken and she started to walk away. I hurriedly said “and mine was the cheese sticks, we didn’t get them yet, and a fish sandwich and...” she turned around raising her hands and said “I’ll just bring you food, I’ll just bring you anything”, and hurried away. I felt like she was mad at me, although we were happy, hadn’t complained about the hour and 15 minutes waiting, and enjoying the entertainment...in 5 minutes, that happy changed. She came back with food in both hands. She shoved a broasted chicken down in front of me which I moved in front of my friend, then a basket if “food” in front of me...but someone’s leftover basket, with some pieces of fried finger food (not Cheese sticks) in the side, and juices in the middle from an eaten burger, lettuce pieces and onions and tomatoes pieces with leftover mayonnaise on the scraps. For the first time in my life, I raised my voice and demanded a manager. The “manager” came, and I explained that this treatment was unexceptable, and showed her the “scrap basket” (still none of the food I ordered at that hour and 15 minute wait). The waitress did this to me as a defiant degrading action, and the manager stood up for this treatment, stating “it’s still good food.” My friend said “that’s somebodies scraps!!”. We walked out mad, and I felt degraded by the treatment, especially how the manager couldn’t seem to see anything wrong with what had happened. I took a picture of the used food basket, and left upset. Found out the next day, the woman the waitress brought as her manager...was her mother. Guess I understand her defense of the unnexceptable treatment now. Note: It was the first time in my life I had called for a manager...

We went to the Portage Lake Parlor for dinner. First of all mind you I have a 3 & 5 year old I ordered kids sprite for each & she brings out 2 adult pops full to the rim, apparently they were out of cups for kids. So I asked for smaller cups. Next I ordered the food, kids split the chicken strip basket, my husband ordered a cheese burger, and I ordered a Italian sub. I asked for no onion & tomato on the sub. When the waitress was getting our food around from the window she noticed there were onions on the sub and told the cooks.... So now everyone is just about finished eating & my husband finally goes up to the window where my sub has been sitting for 5+ minutes and gets my sub. By now my family is done eating & I take a bit of my sub and onions all over the bottom underneath everything. I tell them never mind I’m good. The waitress said she would ask the manager “if my sub can be removed from my bill”. (Are you kidding me) So anyway ended up getting the sub taken off the bill but was charged the same for kids/adult beverages. The place was...
