Independence liquors and food — Restaurant in Waterloo

On 4/17/2025 about 5 minutes ago (9:15pm) I went to their establishment to order food. I have eaten there before and it was good. Tonight I didn’t even get to order. Looking at the menu board I decided to go with a Ohilly Double Cheeseburger in a combo. $13.99 + $4 to make it a combo. Upon ringing it up a very rude man told me it was going to be over $23! Asking why I was informed that the prices changed and that taped to the cashier opening (and also one behind the counter) were the accurate prices and it was $15.99 + the combo price. He was very condescending like we the public should know what we can’t see. So looking at the menu taped to the glass I went with a single Philly Cheeseburger combo as it was priced at $12.99 + combo price. ($16.99 + $1.02tax =$18.01) The counter person told me it was $20.57!?!? Again asking how he said because he went by the menu listed behind the counter which only he can see and that it didn’t matter that he just told me the ontaoed in view was right, because it wasn’t. I recommend only shopping there if you want to play guess the price with your money and be treated like an intellectually inferior individual. Whoever worked the kitchen at 7:30 pm and at least til 8:10 pm needs to never cook again at the store. I eat and love the food but he screwed up the order every way possible on a single hamburger (with ketchup and pickle)meal and a double cheeseburger(ketchup mustard and pickle)meal and an order of mushrooms. I received a single cheeseburger with mustard ketchup and pickle(no taste to it) with non seasoned fries(3/4 fries) and my husband received his correct sandwich (with 1/4 fry no seasoning) and fried pickle spears so had to wait around for the fried mushrooms instead like we ordered while our food got cold and fries got soggy! And I was supposed to get an orange Sunkist and got a strawberry lemonade Sunkist instead was already frustrated so it is what it is but won’t be getting food if he is ever cooking again! Just thought Owner should know!...

I stopped in on New Years Eve to kill two birds with one stone, a bottle of champagne for later and dinner on my way home. Champagne ✓. A few nice upscale choices. What knocked my socks off was the cheeseburger and fries. Good ingredients cooked up by a real short-order cook who knew his trade.
