My recent visit to El Charro Mexican Grill in Waunakee was an absolute delight from start to finish. Nestled in the heart of town, this charming eatery exudes warmth and hospitality, making it the perfect spot for a casual meal and catch-up session with an old friend.

We came to El Charro for a business lunch and found the restaurant quite inviting of a large party. The restaurant does have a number of large tables and they were able to get us in pretty quick which was great. I did like that they have outdoor seating as the weather was beautiful although they did have large tables inside as well so I would recommend this place for groups based on the experience I had. We did arrive about 15 minutes before noon so the more you push into the lunch hour I can imagine it would be more difficult.

The service at the location was excellent most notably the quick pace our orders were taken along with the drinks coming out. As aforementioned we were sitting outside and while it was a nice temperature for us, the cold drinks obviously didn't care for it. I mentioned this because our server was on top of noticing this and was quickly refreshing drinks before our food came out.

The food was good overall, the two soft taco lunch meal I got was a good amount of food taking up a large plate due to a generous portion of beans and rice. The tacos themselves had a nice tortilla shell and good balance of ground beef, lettuce, and cheese. The beans and rice were good standard fare expected and complimented the tacos nicely.

I would return to El Charro based on this experience, I was unfamiliar with the area but local folks said that it was pretty decent which I agree based...

Tonight was our second visit to the Waunakee location. I had quite a craving for the Enchiladas Banderas. They are the best I’ve had in the Madison area! I regularly make a few changes to a dish as I place my order and tonight was no different. The server had a friendly, can-do attitude and said my order was easy despite the changes. I love that! His service was fabulous keeping sodas, chips and salsa refilled and orders placed and received accurately.

The restaurant has a nice vibe and the booths have a cool nail head design and there’s a sliding barn door that adds a nice touch. These details show the owner’s thoughtfulness regarding the overall customer experience. I love that!

While the ground beef enchilada is tasty, the shredded chicken is deliciously seasoned and is more tasty. It’s still nice to have both tastes in the same meal. Variety is the spice of life! I ordered a side of chipotle sauce which is like a creamy queso with chipotle seasoning and it’s delicious. If you’re concerned about heat, it’s not spicy. I poured it on my rice to amp it up as it is a bit plain on its own. My husband ordered the same dish and loved it!

The portions are large and you will leave full. I had some leftovers that I took home. The fajitas look amazing and I look forward to trying those soon. El Charro has great Mexican food and the visit is...
