I'm surprised at the high ratings for this place. Maybe we hit an off night? The place is small and atmosphere is like a pizzeria. Parking is tight. We both had enchiladas. I had chicken with green sauce. The chicken was good quality white meat, but not much in the way of flavor except that it was a bit salty. Normally tomatillo sauce is tangy and this was tasteless. The refried beans were good. Husband's enchiladas were covered in a thin, white 'cheese sauce' that was also tasteless and unappealing. My real rub was service. My dinner was served 10-12 minutes after my husbands. Why bother bringing his out? He refused to eat until mine came, so by then his was cold. When our server realized I didn't have my dinner, he came twice to say my meal would be right out, which was not true, but never did anyone apologize for the delay. While I was waiting for my food, a group which included a woman carrying a toddler sat down. A server was quick to put chips at the table (ignoring the table that was seated 5 min before them that had no chips), but no one assisted the mom in carrying a highchair from one side of the room to the table (while she held the baby). It just seemed like a lot of inconsiderate moves and bland...
Read moreVery impressed. The carnitas are sliced but fall apart with slight pressure from the back of a fork. It certainly rivals area bbq places! Normally the side fillers, of rice and refried beans, is trash. I always taste them before rejecting them. But the rice was light and had a great smokey flavor. The refried beans did as well and wasn't heavy at all. It was so good that I actually ate all of it!
Ordered a Dr. Pepper and it was perfect. So many places don't mix their fountain drinks properly but they did. Everything about this place gives the impression that the owner cares about doing things right. Did I mention how great the carnitas is?
I don't care for white sauce but I tasted it and it was pleasant. The salsa wasn't really special and the chips were average but fresh. That's my only negative comment.
The people and service are great. I-95 travelers are in for a treat if they find this place. And they won't feel bogged down and tired after...
Read moreWe got off the highway and thought about Popeyes or an Italian place, then saw this had all 5 star reviews, so we tried it. Wow, so good. I kept asking what they made fresh there, and the waiter was like "everything." The guacamole? Yes, sometimes 2 batches a day. The chips? Yes he said they make them every morning. The tres leches cake? Yes, but off site at the family's bakery. We had the guac. Excellent. I had 4 enchiladas. Excellent. My daughter had the chicken quesadilla. Excellent. Rice and beans, excellent. Tres leches cake, excellent. And something called a "chando" I think??? It was cheesecake inside a fried pastry. Then I found out this place has only been open a month. They're nailing it. BTW the prices were super reasonable. I think it was $11 for my enchiladas supremas and the guac was $4.50. we spent a lot per person because we tried a bunch of things and had dessert. This is definitely a place I would get off the...
