n town for the week so I stopped in yesterday...my fifth brewery during my stay and beer tender Max ran away w the medal for my favorite!! As I approached the bar I asked Max what I ask every beertender "for what's on tap, what's your go-to?" Max replied w not one but three beers. I instructed him to go ahead and begin my flight w those three. I added the HIGH ABV Devil's Kitchen and Blanche De Ranville. During my tasting I brought up a beer I had tried in another state, prompting Max to ask brewer, Matt who was sitting across the tap room his thoughts on it? Matt eventually came up to the bar so I began to bend his ear about beer styles and such, so this visit just kept getting better as I love discussing beer and breweries!! I approve of them having so many standard height tables and they all have the comfy leather chairs but the wheels are removed and replaced w felt on the bottom so when you slide them around it's not like nails on a chalkboard!! Later a fellow came from the back (flagging me that he's "somebody") and was talking to Matt & Max, he eventually went behind the bar for a beer so I jokingly exclaimed "wait we can pour our own beers?!" Dan replied w a "one of the perks of being an owner" ha. Biere De Mac covers all the bases: friendly owner, friendly and knowledgeable brewer, delicious beer, comfortable and spacious tap room, easy parking and there are probably a plethora of words to describe Max so I'll have to narrow it down to... friendly, knowledgeable, charismatic, I guess just easy to talk to. Before departing I asked Max if there was any other beer I should try? He poured me a taste of the Le Breze Pils, and it was refreshingly light. The brewery wasn't all that busy on a late Friday afternoon which worked in my favor as I got to discuss beer, breweries, and the local scene w Max; which the great conversation kept me there well after finishing my flight. Max falls right in to my brewery hard & fast rule: no matter how good the beer is, 90% of why I come back, or stay so long is because of who's behind the bar, thanks Max for quality conversation. Max and Biere De Mac THANK YOU for such an enjoyable and memorable Michigan brewery experience!! Definitely don't skip on visiting Biere De Mac for a delicious & jovial good...
Read moreI had a great experience here! My fiancé and I went here for lunch
Food We had the salmon salad and shared it as an appetizer. The lettuce was cut beautifully, the salmon was generous and the Parmesan was freshly grated! Love love love! We both had the jalapeño popper burger which was SOOO delicious. I hate sweet potato fries and I actually enjoyed my fiancé’s. The homemade chips were fresh and had great seasoning and just the right amount of salt
The to go containers were ON POINT! Recyclable aluminum with a lid! LOVED IT!!!!! The plastic cups for water were also biodegradable!!!!!
Drinks The beer menu was a bit confusing I don’t understand what tiers are. I think it would be great if they organized them with 1-5 numbers, including dark or lite rated that way as well. I had the beach beer. It was super unique and I enjoyed it. I saw people had samplers but it was not on the menu at all. I also had to ask what a draft is and a “to go” one was it started with a c, I’m not sure what that meant.
What was really displeasing was the water. You had to get it yourself in these tiny cups. Probably hard when it’s busy. And there was no fountain pop. I loved that they had bottle pop like brixs! However I know they make brix in fountain. Fountain machines are expensive but you kind of need one for a restaurant. The water is something I’d change in the future.
Atmosphere Music matched the decor and seating. It was very clean and the chairs were unique. I loved the windows and the plants on the window sill. I walked by the kitchen when I went to the bathroom. The kitchen looked very clean.
The tables had paper on them which looked great! They were cut evenly and were easy!
Bathrooms Eventually those could be easily upgraded. I don’t think the space is up to code. I could barley fit in the stall and the seats were not public standards. The paint had graffiti scraped in it which could be fixed with better paint and a proper paint job.
Employees Employees were very kind and I believe the owner came out or manager! Everyone was really nice and accommodating.
Overall They have great food and great beer and...
Read moreBest By Far! I've been coming to the area for 15 or so years to visit my parents... And I gave up hope for Mackinaw City years ago... a city notorious for horrible food; where restaurants are so bad that they cause a deep drop in housing values because nobody can withstand living somewhere where your best option is starvation. When we heard about this restaurant and how great it was, we gave yet another eye roll. Well, we were wrong... What's this place that you'd expect in Harbor Springs doing in Mackinaw? What are all these wonderful local, seasonal and organic foods, striped carrots, and incredible flavors doing in this almost ghost town? Great local brews, wow... Here? Am I dreaming? If so, please don't wake me up. This restaurant even had hip and stylish well to do people... People wearing Supreme! Attractive people! People who look like they are smart. Not ONE person wearing awful tourist t-shirts, not a single Trump sticker in the parking lot, woo hoo! Even two gay dads with their kid! Did this world suddenly turn into an amazing place people want to live in and spend money in? This place will be a massive success... And this restaurant truly, honestly could turn this area of Michigan around... Like people wanting to live here as much as they want to live in Harbor Springs or Charlevoix or Petoskey? With housing prices increasing and all the abandoned, boarded up buildings being restored? With all of the terrible chain hotels becoming higher end boutique hotels? All of the retail and fudge and popcorn shops selling higher quality goods? The answer is yes, yes, yes, yes, a resounding yes!!! Please let this be the start of something good. They deserve it, and with the right support they alone will single handedly "Make Mackinaw Great Again", and as a united community in a divided country! Thank you for being a very positive part of the community, and all of the Upper Lower Peninsula! Now all we need is Mediterranean Food, Indian Food, Ramen, Sushi, Ethiopian Food, and true Mexican Food... Not the awful excuse for Mexican Food known in this part of the country! Thanks,...
