The only good thing about this place was the atmosphere and sweet servers! Bless those girls for taking 25% of our check off tonite and being professionals. My husband is from here and had been to this place many times, but I had never been. He brought me to try this food right after making funeral arrangementsfor his mama last night...needless to say, we were more than disappointed. Our experience on this visit was ... the food on salad bar was old and not rotated properly, much less, safely. I know as my parents owned a retraunt for years. Health codes have rules for these very reasons. Clearly, (thanks to back of the house) nobody had checked it recently, as referenced by the appearance of slime on inside bottom of the container of chopped hard boiled eggs. It was evident they were going bad by the grey shade of said eggs. I passed that up quick. We then ordered.... I ordered the deep fried fan tail shrimp on the lite menu and it wasn't even deveined, just breaded and deep fried....thats just disgusting and lack of integrity on the part of whom ever prepared and plated that mess. I got sick last nite and felt terrible. My husband, A 100% disabled veteran and he bragged on this place forever so, he ordered the seafood platter (that never came to our table after 45 mins...) 😟 Drinks were great, but I knew it was going nowhere good when I saw the radishes on the salad bar (which I also passed on) were with black spots and standing w slimy water in the bottom. My first thought? Anyone can get in a mess over salad bar, the food will be better. Then our daughters chicken salad had no dressing, it just never came. Now let me tell you about him, he is a 100% disabled veteran w diabetes who served 15 yrs in the Army, who has to eat good food on a proper schedule. So if we plan a dinner out we must plan and choose carefully, taking into account for other things such as peak hours and med times and adjust accordingly. So now as Im sure you can imagine this was a mess...such a shame tbh. When my parents owned their resturaunt 20 yrs ago it was small but voted best in our town many times, and to have such a beautiful place like this is a blessing. Why would anyone let a few back of the house employees ruin such a great place with their lack of attention to details and integrity is beyond me but it's my opinion it was most unfortunate. I sure hope it gets better, before you experience...
Read moreMy family and I just left Captain Joe's where we were celebrating a birthday and Mother's Day. Unfortunately it was one of the most horrendous restaurant experiences we have ever had. Once we were finally seated it took 30 minutes for our waitress to take our drinks order - 20 minutes later we got our drinks. From the time that our waitress took our order to when the first plate came out was an hour and ten minutes. The first plate had onion rings and fried mushrooms - both were cold. Approximately 30 minutes later the remaining orders arrived. One was a chicken sandwich - the amount of chicken on the sandwich equaled maybe 2 ounces and it was so over cooked it was not edible. The other plates arrived luke warm and did not taste very well according to the rest of my party.
Management and waitstaff seemed to be less than concerned with our wait time. Even after approaching Management and bringing it to their attention - there was nothing done to resolve our issue. It is completely irresponsible for a establishment that has been in business this long to not have better service - especially on Mother's Day. When it came time to pay for our awful meal we decided to go straight up to the counter to pay rather than continuing to wait for our check. The same member of Management that I spoke with earlier about our wait time was the same individual who was cashing us out. He made no effort to apologize for our troubles and did not offer to compensate us with the bill.
As a side note - the bathrooms were absolutely filthy. The floor was unsettlingly sticky. Toilet paper littered the flooring in the bathroom and the hallway leading to the bathroom. As we waited to be seated we noticed that there was enough food surrounding the salad bar on the floor to fill a medium sized plate. We also noticed that one of the waitresses was touching ready to eat food with her bare hands rather that with gloves as she took it to the salad bar to fill up the containers.
My family and I will not be going back to this establishment and it is infuriating that we had to spend our time here on such special occasions as a birthday and...
Read moreMy wife & I had the pleasure of eating at Captain Joe's the other day. When we walked in, the restaurant looks very clean and has the ocean settings. We were seated at a booth (I'm more of a table guy myself). Suzanne was out waitress and you couldn't ask for a better server! She was very professional and courteous! Also personal enough to make small talk with us. We ordered and she brought us our drinks. You get a glass of your requested beverage plus a small pitcher of the same so your glass can always stay filled. Excellent Idea! The salad bar comes with your meal. I must say it is a very BIG salad bar. Everything looks so Fresh and plentiful. It even includes several cold salads, soup, mini corn muffins and cheese biscuits. Also, there is sliced fruit and banana pudding for dessert. Personally I could have made a meal just eating from the salad bar. My wife ordered 2 combo seafood meal and I ordered the 3 combo seafood meal. She got popcorn shrimp and fried clam strips. I got 2 orders of fan tail shrimp and 1 deviled crab. You get one side with your meal, she got french fries and I got "cheese grits" The food was plentiful and excellent. I just wish the deviled crab cakes were bigger. But here's the reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5. When I eat seafood or fish, normally restaurants have grits or cheese grits. So I always order cheese grits with my meals. So I ordered grits, our server said "cheese grits?" I said yes, please. So she brings out a bowl of regular grits with shredded cheese on top of the grits. Well that ain't cheese grits too me. Plus I didn't know there was a 0.99 charge for the cheese that was shredded on the grits. The grits were good, but not "Cheese Grits"! Will we return to eat here again? YES, we will! I just won't order the grits as my side. Thank you Suzanne for the Excellent Service and Captain Joe's for...
