Wellborn's Country Charm Diner — Restaurant in Welborn

I ordered the $11.99 Hamburger Steak with brown gravy and onions with mashed potatoes and gravy and green lima beans. When I arrived to pick it up they hadn’t started cooking it yet so I added a $7.99 “special” which was a grilled chicken breast with mashed potatoes and gravy and a side (I ordered green lima beans). When I got home, both plates were disappointing to say the least. The hamburger steak was a small hamburger patty the size of a happy meal hamburger patty with brown gravy and a tiny bit of onions. The mashed potatoes had no gravy and the green lima beans were hard like the water was cooked out of them and they had no butter or seasoning. The chicken plate was just as bad the hamburger steak. The chicken was a tiny piece of chicken that was cooked too long and dried out. The green limas were the same as the other plate. I mixed the potatoes together since only one had gravy and tasted them and they were awful. The potatoes tasted old and overcooked. Photos attached for you...

My family highly recommends this little country diner a few minutes south of I-10 between Tallassee and I-75. It's an older re-purposed building that's seen many uses including a service station and grocery (meat) store. The stop is quiet and peaceful after interstate driving. Restrooms were clean, and the friendly service quick. They clearly understand travelers might not wish to linger, but we weren't rushed, either.

Pot roast was great, but my wife's patty melt was the BEST I've ever had. Reserve a slice of banana cream pie, big enough for two, when you sit down just in case they run out... I've never had better. It's made there, different from the Perkins or Publix versions, and best yet: not over-sweet. My mother used to cut the sugar in half for her pies, so I appreciated that.

Everybody else there were locals, and truly friendly in that North Florida way. Make this a stop rather than a typical highway business family restaurant franchise. It's an authentic, unassuming gem all...

Food was ok, but the server must’ve been overloaded or going through some personal problems because not only did she take it upon herself to add items to our bill that we didn’t ask for, but also charged me more for their “special of the day”. When I asked about the charges she replied, “it seemed like yall wanted more so I added it” she walked away and charged my card without making any adjustments for HER error. They were also out of half of what we ordered, and didn’t let us know until our plates were in front of us. At the end I was speaking with the manager, AND the server about how to resolve the issue and the server literally stormed off and said “Whatever!” Everything was ok up until that point…

Honestly the worst service I’ve ever experienced in...
