A terrible experience!! My family and I went into this business hoping to have a wonderful experience, but what we got was far from it! My family and I visited on a very busy night, which I clearly understand can be overwhelming for the employees. We ordered six medium lobsters. 2 pounds of steamers and a medium clam chowder. A young man took our order and never asked us if it was to go or eat in. We waited patiently as they processed our order. The order came out and they had it displayed on trays with chips and cole slaw. We didn't order chips and cole slaw. At this time, a rude elderly lady rang our order up and said it was $ 245.00! I said I didn't understand how that could be when the lobster was $13.99 a pound, steamers $12.00 bucks a pound and the medium chowder around 8 bucks. She angrily said, "because we ordered the dinners," which we did not! I again told her we just ordered the lobsters, steamers and chowder and didn't order the dinners. The lady again said it was $245.00 and said because we are eating in you pay the dinner price for each lobster. This was the very first time we ever visited this place and at no time did she explain to us that if you eat in you pay the dinner price. I did not see anything displayed saying this. I reluctantly paid for the order. The next day, I called and spoke to Troy, who I assume is the owner, about our experience. I was very polite and explained everything to him. Troy was very arrogant. rude and not understanding at all! He said he remembers us from the night before and said his mother, whom I assume is the lady that I paid, explained to us that we had the option of not paying the dinner price and take it out instead. AT NO TIME WAS THIS EVER EXPLAINED TO US!! Troy went on to say " If I didn't charge a dinner price for each lobster, then nobody would ever take a lobster out of here"'. I explained to Troy that we didn't understand his business practices as nothing is clearly marked stating difference in pricing. I explained to Troy, that My wife and daughter, were upset at our experience. Troy never offered to make things right and was very rude and condescending and didn't seem to care at all! I understand that we are not locals, but they could have handled this in a better way, other than being rude and condescending. If you go here, better have them explain everything...
Read moreA few years ago we asked a long time Well’s local the best place to go for Lobster rolls and lucky for us she recommended Wells Lobster Pound. The seafood here could not be any fresher. We went again lastnight and got steamers, a seafood platter and lobster rolls with butter and some with mayo. I have never had steamers like that with literally not a grain of sand. Every single piece of seafood was fresh and the fried batter was perfect. It’s one place I pick the homemade chips over the French fries because they are to die for. Even more than that, the service was exceptional. Everyone was so kind and making sure we enjoyed everything. I believe we were chatting with the owner at the end explaining we put an offer on a house down the street and he was so great welcoming us to the neighborhood. The other great thing about this place is the location, with picnic tables close to the ocean as well as a small but nice option to eat inside. I wish I got some picture but didn’t want to wait another minute before talking about our experiences here. Highly recommend! Even if you are just considering takeout or looking for a fish market, you...
Read moreNormally, service here is pleasant but I had a strange interaction with the teenager ringing me up the other day. I was there with a friend, and my friend asked the young boy behind the counter if business had been busy and if he had waited on a lot of tourists.
The boy responded that business was slower than normal and that Canadians were refusing to come to Maine because they were angry with Janet Mills.
Even though that statement is blatantly inaccurate, it was unbelievably inappropriate to say something so politically charged to customers. It was so bold and so arrogant. It doesn’t matter what side of the political spectrum you’re on. It’s unprofessional to bring politics or religion into a conversation with customers completely out of the blue like that.
I’ve lived in Wells my entire life and started working in family owned restaurants in town when I was 14, so I understand what it’s like to be a teenager serving tourists in this town.
This interaction was shocking and any of the local Wells business owners that I’ve worked for over the years would be horrified if I had...
