The first time i ate here 5/5 for price, service, food, staff, etc. the past time i ate here the person who took my order just was not understanding or easy to work with for dietary accommodations.
Normally this wouldn't be an issue but the restaurant paints itself as a place that is welcoming to people who have restrictive diets (such as vegan, vegetarian, or GF).
First time I had a person who completely understood my struggle of being Celiac while choosing to be vegetarian. She keyed in a sandwich with modifications. This most recent trip I picked a sandwich that would have the least modification to it since there is only 1 sandwich that is vegetarian (but it contains gluten). There was nothing written that sandwiches could not be modified on the menu, and the OBS has the ability to modify easily. I ordered a patty melt asked for the meat to be removed sub mushrooms and surcharge gf bread. i was told no this would be an entirely different sandwich. I said i am vegetarian and celiac the only choice i have it is impossible for that to be gf and the veggie burgers are not gf and the flatbreads are not gf. The server was like what about a salad.
At the end of the day it's incredibly rude to be accommodating and then not accommodate. The place needs to do better training and awareness because the request I made was not difficult at all. it was not extra work for the chef to accommodate and the system was more than capable to handle this. I am not eating at a place that has 1 of a kind specialty sandwiches that are world class; it's not disrespectful to have a substitution on a sandwich that normal should have mushrooms already and the server acted as if i was asking for her to do something that would cost her job. I went in an off peak time too. it should not have taken 10mins for me...
Read moreI wasn’t expecting to come across such an exceptional restaurant this far up the North Shore. I was needing to load up on a decent meal before hiking and camping on the SHT, and I stumbled upon this place. I have probably passed by it before but this was the first time I have actually stopped in. The restaurant has a modern rustic decor that feels quite homey. They also have covered outdoor seating as well.
I sat at the bar and ended up ordering a variety of different things. I was initially planning on just ordering the walleye dinner but didn’t realize dinners start at 4pm. So, I pivoted to the coconut crusted walleye fingers as an appetizer. I think this was the best decision I could’ve made because they were delicious. It reminded me of coconut crusted shrimp but in walleye form. So simple yet creative and the coconut pairs perfectly with the walleye and their amazing house made tartar sauce.
For my main dish, I went with the summer greens bowl. The presentation was excellent and the salad was super refreshing. I loved the texture from the crispy chickpeas and the sweetness from the fruit. I started contemplating whether or not I should get dessert and said what the heck, I might as well finish with the moscato berry tiramisu cake. Once again, they knocked it out of the park. This tiramisu was excellent and a great way to end the meal.
What was supposed to be a quick stop turned into a 2 hour experience. I had planned on just getting in and out, but I am glad that I decided to try a bunch of different things. Also, shout out to the service all around from the chefs to the bartenders to the servers. Everyone was great at their job and easy going. The bartender Ray was great to chat with as well and best of luck on your future...
Read moreI’m writing this review after a recent visit to Cascade Restaurant with my close girlfriends. We had a reservation and were seated promptly, even though the restaurant was packed — which we appreciated. The food was outstanding, and the service from most of the team was efficient and professional. We were really enjoying our night.
Unfortunately, one staff member made the evening uncomfortable and ultimately disappointing. A male employee repeatedly hovered near our table and engaged in persistent, unwanted flirting. Despite our polite but clear disinterest — and the fact that we’re all married and visibly wearing wedding rings — he continued the behavior. The situation escalated to the point where he handed me his phone number on a piece of paper at the end of our meal.
This crossed a clear professional boundary. It made us feel disrespected and uncomfortable in what should have been a relaxing, enjoyable dinner. I didn’t want to confront the issue in the moment due to how busy the restaurant was, but this was not okay. Guests should never be made to feel like they’re being hit on by someone who is there in a professional capacity.
While I don’t normally write reviews, I felt this needed to be addressed. I hope management takes this seriously — the quality of the food and service was otherwise excellent, but this kind of behavior is unacceptable and absolutely needs to...
