Where do I begin! Blueberry Inn was a God sent blessing to our family. I traveled south to my hometown of Waycross, Ga from Connecticut, to celebrate my Auntie's Surprise 80th birthday party with family, scheduled for Dec 14th, the day before her actual birthdate of Dec. 15th.
What was initially planned back in October, to be held at a fine dining establishment in Blackshear, Ga(J.L's on Main), turned into an immediate nightmare the evening before the party, at exactly 10:37 p.m., when the establishment in Blackshear canceled by email, to me stating they had a glitch in their system, which had a previously scheduled party in their old booking system, that did not transfer to their new system, where our party was booked. To make it worst, is that I had not seen this cancelation email until 11:50 p.m., as we had family in from out of state that was gathered at my aunts house, where I was staying. This immediately shook my sister and I to our core. There were no words to express how we were feeling. We urgently began looking for a location online, using both our phones, laptops, etc. At that moment, I recalled the Inn in Alma, but, the name escaped me. I looked online for fine dining in Alma,Ga, and the Blueberry Mansion came up. I asked my sister to check it out while I continued to search online. She noticed on the page of the Blueberry a mention of a phone # to call or text for questions. I asked for the #, and texted at 12:14 am. We did not expect an answer, it was now after 1 am; we went to bed praying and believing that God would not allow us to be put to shame, because we trusted in Him, and know for certain, that nothing takes Him by surprise, Romans 10:11. So we went to sleep.
Early morning, upon awakening again around 630 a.m. I began searching, looking for a venue to host 30 people, in Jacksonville, Jekyll Island, etc, and nothing was open.
Then, at 7:25 a.m., I received a text from Blueberry Inn, reaching out in response to my inquiry for the party later that evening. Fast forward, they were available, SPRING(owner) had Sprung(answered prayer) in our winter of disappointment(cancelation)! To GOD BE ALL THE GLORY! WE ARE PEOPLE OF FAITH & MY AUNTIE LOUISE, A DAUGHTER OF THE KING! Truly, it was a miracle. Not only was the Blueberry Inn available amongst a busy holiday party season, but the banquet room was available. Our only issue was being able to move the party up 1 hour to 5 o'clock. Instead of 6p. Spring offered to revise our party invitation of which I declined, and was able to do so myself rather quickly. In addition, we had to select a menu before the food vendors closed at 12 PM, which required my sister and I to decide on the menu and drive to Alma, meet with Spring and her husband, Chef Joe, to go over the menu, give a deposit for the banquet room, normally $800, but because if our dire need, they allowed a 1/2 off for $400. We paid for the party, decorated, went back home to Waycross, got dressed, and drove back for the party. My sister and I covered all the costs of this family dinner. It was the first time outside of a funeral repass that our family was able to sit down for a formal dinner, for a living family member, and auntie being our family's matriarch.
Here's the kicker, our theme was BLUE! We asked each family member to wear a shade of BLUE. BLUE was my aunts favorite color! The BLUEBERRY INN MANSION PLANTATION was a Heaven sent, truly God's choice! And, this space was 5xs the space of the original location allowing the kids to eat and have a wonderful time.
The owners, Joe and Spring, and their staff were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Even the servers, all BECAME FAMILY TO US! We all took pics, the chefs came out to greet Auntie, just soooo much to say. THE FOOD WAS OUTSTANDING! EVERY ITEM WAS AMAZING! AND AUNTIE'S SPECIAL SURF N TURF WAS TOP TIER!! In the end, the Blueberry Mansion had additional revenue, but we got to celebrate in a most beautiful way our Auntie's 80th birthday. Thank you, STEPHANIE HAMMOND, CT!! We will be back! I...
Read more3 years ago and my kids still have PTSD from our experience at the Blueberry Mansion. In 2020 my friend was getting married at the mansion. My wife, mother and 3 boys came with me as we booked two inside rooms for two nights. The night before the wedding and the night of the wedding. When we checked in the lady at the front desk told us they will have a continental breakfast the next morning and that there would be a small party in the bar that night but they would be done around 9-9:30.
The only other individual who rented a room at the mansion that night was the soon to be bride. The groom and I left the mansion around 7:30 to go to his place and sit by a fire and kick back a few. Around 11pm we started getting calls from our wife and fiancé about the party that was shaking the walls and keeping them up. I called several times to the mansion to try and get an answer and after 40 minutes of calling, management finally answered. I asked why the 9-9:30 party downstairs was still going and keeping their guest up. They informed me it would be over by 12-12:30 now. I said this was unacceptable. They offered for my wife, mother, 3 kids and the future bride the option of getting out of bed and packing everything up and moving to one of their outside lower priced rooms in December when it was a decently cold night. I yelled a few expletives in my frustration.
The next morning we find out it was a staff Christmas party that they were having that was keeping their guest up. When the groom and I get to the mansion my wife informs me the continental breakfast was two boxes of cereal on a cart with a gallon of milk. The staff was supposed to decorate the front porch area, dinning room and outside gazebo for the wedding. They put two poinsettia out in the front porch and called it quits. I talked to management that morning about cancelling the second night as the first night experience for everyone was not pleasant. They said that I was cancelling within 24 hours so I would still be charged the full price. I informed them I was not leaving the counter until I received a full refund for night two as it was their Christmas party the first night as to why we would not continue our stay. Their statement was well we are not having a party tonight other than the wedding your attending . I stood their until they refunded me.
After that my mother, the bride and grooms mother started decorating the dining room area. While the groom and myself started working on setting up the chairs and the gazebo area to make it look nice with zero help from the staff.
The wedding itself went great. The food was decent that they made. The venue is really nice.
The entire venue was supposed to be for just the wedding guest. At the reception in the bar after the first dance and the other normal wedding activities a local who drinks there often was allowed in and proceeded to get hammered. He then decided to try and dance and grind up on the brides mom. He was quickly grabbed by several men and tossed outside when everyone found out he was not with the bride or grooms party. The staff at the mansion knew who the guy was and allowed him to come into the wedding and serve him drinks. He tried to come back in after being kicked out which results in him getting knocked out. My kids who were 12, 10 and 8 at the time still talk about the Blueberry Mansion as the worst weekend ever.
The entire wedding could have gone way different if management would have just done their...
Read moreCame here for prom, and was stuck in a room with a few other tables that were also going to our prom. The menu was altered specifically for our event and was very misleading. After waiting 10 minutes for drinks, we were able to order appetizers and our meal (only because we stopped the waitress-who had just taken the order of the party that came in well after us). Appetizers came, and about 30-40 minutes our food came out. Our server set the food down and did not return for another 15 minutes, at which time I asked her for a new set of silverware, and to clarify what I had ordered. The menu read that my meal was to come with their "signature ribeye" and shrimp. My plate was set down with what the waitress told me was a "ribeye sirloin" and 4 pieces of shrimp. My steak was ordered to be medium rare and it came out medium well and with the shrimp cold. I asked the waitress for a manager right after she had grabbed me a new set of silverware, and was finally greeted by the manager about 15 minutes after I had asked. She told me that there wasn't much she could do, due to me not immediately telling my waitress what was wrong with my food (even though she had disappeared for 15 minutes). I let the manager know that we were already extremely late to our event and that I fully intended on paying and eating my meal- I was just extremely disappointed with the service, and she offered a 15% discount. I was not able to pay for another 15 minutes while she took her time applying the discount and having the server run my check (after I asked for a box to take the food and she developed an...
