6/11/17 The bartender (tiny young brunette) was borderline hostile from the moment we sat down on the empty restaurant side of the bar; no smile, zero eye contact and radiating bitchiness. We ordered food, took our drinks outside to have a smoke. Come back in to find a couple had moved into our seats-- the bartender couldn't be bothered to tell them we hadn't left. Ten minutes later, the same bartender tells me "unfortunately, our chowder wasn't made" looking towards us over her left shoulder while getting a glass of soda, too ignorant to take the time to directly face me. No apology, just asked me if I still wanted my clam cakes, or the menu, so I told her no, please cancel my order.. still ignorant, she shrugged AND WALKED AWAY. My spouse isn't rude, refused to eat in front of me, but in order to cancel HIS food, we had to ask another bartender, (Lori) bc ours clearly sucked. Lori apologized profusely and comped out drinks but there's too many places we can drink without eating, and be treated kindly! We both grew up in Exeter/west Greenwich and we're...
Read moreI've been coming here for years but this last time was special. This was my 4th motorcycle run here and 2nd that included a steak dinner. If you have an event to throw with a meal after I would highly suggest you do it here and include the steak. It was great. Bill helped Tavern with the steaks. Jane was in charge and they did an incredible job, as did everyone involved! Our event included the concert that night. Amber Rose was the band and they were fantastic! They did all types of music, Jefferson Airplane, Taylor Swift, The Beatles, CeeLo Green, and so many more! We had motorcycle bros in from all around the country attend and they all left smiling and talking about how they can't wait for our next ride. I asked Bill, the steak chef what he thought was the best mixed drink. He suggested a chocolate martini, in a pint glass with lots of ice. It was excellent! Thanks Jane and everyone at Tavern on the Hill for a great weekend and your wonderful hospitality. We will do this again and I'll be...
Read moreThe odor of stale beer as we walked in the door should have been our first sign to turn and run. The menu was sub par at best, but I thought I'd be safe ordering the garden salad with grilled chicken. The salad arrived in a hot bowl with chicken that tasted like Grandma's leftovers from last Sunday's dinner, it was certainly the farthest thing from grilled. I was happy to have not awoken with food poisoning in the middle of the night, so that's a bonus. The wait staff was friendly but scattered, we had to ask for utensils after the food arrived, I would think that utensils are dining 101. Having read other reviews that are good, my best guess is that these people have never had good food in their lives. Needless to say, we will...
