Had been told about the Skyline Family Restaurant by a friend who'd eaten there a couple of times while visiting from out of state. We decided to go on a Thursday for lunch because they have an 'all you can eat' Chicken Pot Pie that both of us wanted to try.
Although there were a few scattered customers in the building while we were there, they weren't very busy at all. We ordered the 'all you can eat' Chicken Pot Pie and I ordered a sampler appetizer platter that consisted of two chicken tenders, two jalapeno poppers, two mozzarella sticks, & three onion rings. I must apologize for failing to get a photo of this 'platter', but you're really not missing anything. It was simply unimpressive! All the items appeared, as well as tasted, like they came from the freezer to the fryer to the table. Definitely not worth the 💰 they're charging for it!
Then there's the Chicken Pot Pie. While it was edible, it was far from being Chicken Pot Pie! Pot Pie has a crust over it, this was a chicken broth stew, or soup, with some vegetables (mainly large chunks of potatoes) and large strips of soft dough that had been cooked in the stew/soup. NO crust whatsoever! You'd have a better argument calling this dish 'Chicken & Dumplings' than a pot pie, even though the large strips of dough didn't resemble 'dumplings' either. And then there's the lack of chicken. I could open up a can of any variety of chicken soup off the shelf and have at least twice the amount of chicken that I had in two (2) bowls of this 'Chicken Pot Pie'. The dish does come with Cole slaw, but the side is NOT 'all you can eat' so beware of that. The $9.59 is just for the 'all you can eat' bowel of veggies & dough in chicken broth with minimal meat and a single small side dish of cole slaw.
Can't really see myself returning to this restaurant when in the area, especially when there are lots of better choices...
Read moreVery bad experience. I ordered the country potatoes that stated on the menu generous portion of ham. It had a couple slivers (bead-sized) of ham on it and I sent it back. The manager also agreed that it barely had any ham on it but then after I sent it back twice her tone changed. The manager leaned in towards me (I was sitting on the other side of my husband) and in a very disrespectful tone, raised her voice at me which made other customers look. She told me she had worked there for 20 years with never a complaint about it. And I even said to her is this really how a manager should handle things by raising her voice at me. This only seemed to anger her more. She said she would take it back now and take it off our check with no other solution given. After being yelled at with other customers looking, we were not going to stay and then on our way out, she said you are still going to need to pay for the one meal that my husband barely ate. The manager proceeded to talk rude by telling the cashier in front of other customers that we complained about the country potatoes and basically made fun of us for complaining. My husband did say he didn't think he should have to pay since he barely ate his meal but she said you need to. We did not argue further and my husband paid for his barely eaten meal. I am appalled by the raising of her voice and not coming up with a solution for this. Yes, I was irritated and voiced my opinion that their menu should be updated but I did not raise my voice. Regardless, this is not the customer service anyone...
Read moreIf you enjoy delicious home cooked meals at a reasonable price this is the place. We have lived in Harrisburg 19 years and have been searching for a restaurant like this. The first time we had breakfast. My husband loves homemade Belgiam waffles. He said they were the best he ever ate. I was really hungry that day.i ordered a hungrymans breakfast. Pancakes, sausage, bacon, hashbrowns, eggs and toast. I could only eat half of it and took other half home. I do not like pancakes that you get at fast food restaurants with no taste. My pancakes were freshly made. My hashbrowns were made with real potatoes, not a frozen patty. While we were dining a friendly man came to our table and asked if our food was ok. We told him we were happy to find a restaurant that served homemade food. He smiled and told us he was happy we enjoyed the food. Later I found out that this elderly man was the owner and even though his son is manager there, he still was "hands on". This past Sunday, I had ho.emade chicken with stuffing inside and two sides. It tasted just like my grandmother baked. My husband had homemade stuffed shells. He couldn't believe they were not frozen that he usually would get at a restaurant. They were stuffed fold with Italian cheese and sauce on top. As I write this my mouth is watering. Did I mention they have a huge selection of homemade food. Also, all the staff were so polite, efficient and kind. I'm not sure if I should share how wonderful this place is because I dont want it to become so popular that there won't be a...
