We were a party of 2, with reservations.

First off, it's a real English pub in America. Bar None. It's in a quaint building on the crossroads of gorgeous agricultural countryside in rural Pennsylvania. It also boasts the fireplace, the woodwork, and the atmosphere. It's also Kid friendly, indicative of a real pub.

Drinks: The draft menu was well rounded, with a nice collection of imports. All told probably 70+ beers and ciders to choose from. I settled on a Crabbie's Original Ginger Beer, which I haven't had for eons. My wife went with a Unsweetened Ice Tea, it was dark and definitely a house blend. They were a great start.

Appetizers: We both settled on Welsh rarebit and bubble and squeak. They were fantastic. The B&S was very luscious. The freshness of the scallions and cabbage was incredible, and the sour cream was just this decadent compote of sorts that tied it together.

The Welsh rarebit was equally delicious, and long after the Crostini was gone, the staff simply left it at the table as it basically became a dip-all for everything. It's that Damn good .

Mains: I wanted to do a review on a full english experience in America. I went into this restaurant with that attitude. However, the special they offered BBQ Platters "Smoked Chicken Quarter, Banger, Pulled Pit Beef & Pork Belly with spicy pickles and Apple.Slaw" spoke to me. A truly Englich Pub producing American BBQ, the one food America is noted in creating. I had to try it, and I wasn't disappointed.

First off, let's get this out of the way. This kitchen knows how to make slaw. I can confidently recommend anything with slaw in the description without even trying it.

Not only was it house, but you can tell the recipe was scrutinized. The only sin was there wasn't more of it, same for the house pickles which was a bit unfortunate the meat was resting on it, so I couldn't get a full crisp bite, they were warm and limp, but the brine was good and the acid cut through the pork belly.

Since we were going there, the pork belly was the star. It was so succulent , it's one of those things you can't stop eating. Tender, chewy with a hard smoke flavor that spreads across the palate. The BBQ chicken is another masterpiece, something that's often on menus and never delivers.

The care and attention, full pink smoke throughout with absolutely delicious crisp skin. Based on the love and attention that went into it, let's just say the non shalont entry on the menu almost makes it feel cheap. It was excellent.

The pulled beef pulled the whole plate together. The Banger... although there, I feel like it got lost. If you love sausage, I would do the bangers and mash to let that speak on its own. It was delicious, but I wanted gravy to go with it.

My wife's English onion was from what she reported equally delicious, and although I didn't try it. A regret. She says she detected the worcestershire & and sage, and I could see the cheddar. All hallmarks of the real deal.

Due to extreme inclement weather that was occurring at the time, we did cut the meal short of dessert, In hindsight, we should have stayed and tried the sticky toffee pudding.

Final: We would definitely come back. If you follow us, you know we do a lot of pubs, mostly Irish. It was most excellent to find an English gem. Highly Recommend.

Criticism: They have shepherd's pie and are known to do luxury pie. If you're going to go there based on the BBQ chicken. I would love to see a chicken pie.

Thank you for a...

New Year, new journeys to find extraordinary eats! OK, so, discovered this place all thanks to watching Guy Fieri last night on TV where he was visiting an English pub in DE and reading what one reviewer wrote that she was heading back to the BEST PUB, the Whip Tavern, in Coatesville, PA. Beautiful sunny Sunday to take a 97 mile country drive to see what Chef Tim’s specials were and discover this olde world English pub. The country charm of cozy interior was super inviting and welcoming. Almost immediately, a young man showed us to a back wall table and then CHERYL, our server, showed up with a huge smile, full of good energy, she provided us great, efficient service from beer to dessert. As we often do, we ordered a few dishes: the Shrimp & Grits (100% better than Hyman’s in Charleston) where the sauce was the gold, perfectly cooked fresh shrimp, yummy grits (a tad too salty but then I HATE salt!) The tender braised short ribs, mashed potatoes and collards with sautéed onions, ALL prepared well. The fried COD portion was breaded and fried to perfect golden crunchy crispness, with “CHIPS” (wide steak fries) and a side order of smashed peas in a ramekin. Since the beef tenderloin SPECIAL was not ready until 4pm, we ordered it takeout along with the FARM BURGER. These Monday treats were equally superb. It delights me to know that owner spends time in their own establishments and interact while working alongside the staff. And this whole dining experience made me happy with each dish, the presentation, ingredients and taste. Oh, and that warm sphere of MEDJOOL FIGGY PUDDING cake surrounded with Toffee sauce was the big splurge. Absolutely delightful and delicious. Can’t wait to return and dine...

The Whip consistently serves fabulous British fare: their Bangers & Mash, Shepherd's Pie, Fish & Chips, and Beef on Weck are all wonderfully good when you add a side of Mushy Pea's to your order! The Scotch Egg and Welsh Rarebit appetizers are delightful and you must save room for dessert! Sticky Toffee Pudding is not to be missed to round off your British dining experience.

But fear not, the Chef is always offering the freshest the most delicious menus, featuring the best flavors of local grown and raised produce and prime cuts as well. His creativity and ability to bring those culinary dreams to life knows no bounds. The menu changes with the seasons and I've never had a dinner or lunch there that wasn't a delight to the taste buds yet!

Appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches at lunchtime, full course dinners...you will find something to make your mouth happy and to satisfy your tummy all on the same plate.

They also have an extensive beer list: many available on tap, the rest by the bottle, featuring a heavy selection from England, Scotland, Ireland, the USA. There are other countries represented, so I'm sure you'll fine one or two to your liking.

It's a small and intimate place, and it folks up quickly. Parking has always been a problem, so come early and plan to stay a while to soak up the atmosphere and watch a good rugby match while you're there. It's also a friendly place as you're quickly absorbed by the local crowd.

Kick back, relax and enjoy the true pace, friendly atmosphere and awesome food of a real British Pub right here in...

Seriously a must if you’re in Chester County! The sticky toffee pudding was absolutely delicious + the food in general was amazing. Went above and beyond expectations! And don’t even get me started on how gorgeous the drive was. 🍪🧸🍂👢 #restaurantreview #localrestaurant #chestercounty #cozyvibes #pennsylvania
