Nestled amidst the breathtaking beauty of the Appalachian Trail, the Thunderhead Lodge restaurant is a hidden gem that effortlessly combines the rustic charm of the wilderness with the sophistication of a Michelin-star dining experience. From the moment you step in, you are greeted by the warm ambiance, an inviting blend of wood accents and soft lighting that creates an atmosphere of cozy elegance.
The staff's knowledge of handcrafted cocktail concoctions and the chef’s genuine enthusiasm for the culinary creations enhance the overall dining experience. Whether you're seated indoors or on the outdoor terrace, you're treated to picturesque surroundings, inspired by natural elements.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the visit, the food here is a masterpiece in every sense. The menu, a celebration of locally sourced ingredients and creative culinary techniques, showcases the chef's passion for flavors and presentation. Each dish is a work of art, meticulously plated and bursting with freshness. My filet was cooked to absolute perfection with a delectable char on the outside while remaining tender and juicy inside. The steak's flavor was rich, robust, and precisely what a steak aficionado dreams of. The culinary expertise displayed in the preparation and grilling process truly rivals that of iconic establishments like Peter Luger. From the delicate seafood starters to the perfectly grilled filet and indulgent desserts, every bite is a revelation. The menu evolves with the seasons, ensuring that guests are treated to the finest and freshest produce available.
Dining at this lodge's restaurant on the Appalachian Trail is an unforgettable journey for the senses. While the Michelin star is well-deserved, the soothing sound of nature elevates the concept of trailside dining to a level that's truly...
Read moreBeautiful place ontop of Blue Mtn. It's unique because it sits on the side of the Appalachian Trail. I came here excited but left very disappointed. Okay now for the review....long wait....make sure you get a reservation and call ahead, I saw people leaving upset at the entrance. 2nd part...I thought this was a place for HIKERS on the Appalachian Trail to visit.....why is it soooooooo expensive and over dressed up! There should have been a place to hang backpacks at least, not sitting outside under the overhanging roof...and gear is expensive!!!😳 Hershey was cheaper at most places! I ordered a drink, it was 11$ and yet I think the berries I picked on this mountain will do more for me. So I asked for a strong long island.....nope....watered down!! 22$ for drinks that didn't even make me feel relaxed, after hiking over 15miles! I wish i had gone somewhere else! The food was delicious at least 😋 and the server I had was friendly. Other then that it was a disappointment...you would think it should be catering to Hikers not the filthy rich! 80$ for a meal for 2!!!!! I feel now I need to warn other hikers of this place vs. telling them to check it out 😒 seriously....I recommend this place make a separate area for hikers (inside), a separate food menu for hikers, and a place to hang gear at when visiting....it's not like I could just leave it in my car...hikers don't have a lot of money to begin with, and they don't like it when a place takes advantage of them either especially after a hard long trip. This works pretty well for pizza Sorento in Hershey FYI! A place for quick food and sodas, and a...

I had my 1st lunch at this restaurant a few days ago, and will without question be coming back. The staff / servers are friendly and attentive, but the big wow-factor for me was the quality of the food. I live in the NYC area, and am used to a specific level of food that often doesn't translate the farther outside of the area you go. Well ... be prepared to be wowed. My friend & I split the crab cake and the spicy chicken sandwiches, and I cannot pick a favorite. In my experience crab cake sandwiches are tricky, as the bread-to-crab-cake ratio is often in favor of the bread; not the case with this one. They use a potato roll, which is brilliant because the sweetness of the bread pairs perfectly with the crab. The spicy chicken sandwich used a chicken thigh (GENIUS); the chicken was insanely tender / juicy. I also got the Twigs & Berry cocktail, and learned that Thunderhead actually makes their own blackberry spirits (I think that's the correct terminology). Either way, get this drink. 10/10 highly recommend if you're in the area (or not, make the drive). Atmosphere is rustic & casual, which fits the PA location perfectly. They have a chicken pot pie that I've got my eye on for my next meal. ...
