Beware: The web site for the restaurant and restaurant reservation doesn't include the word "Redbook". Everything is as if the restaurant is named "Hillbrook". Even when you book a table, you book a table for "Hillbrook" not "Redbook". I thought that the restaurant must have been renamed, but no-- the newly printed menu at the restaurant itself says "Redbook".
Food was great. Table staff was great. I have just two issues:
For a regular-price restaurant I wouldn't mention it, but at a gourmet restaurant with gourmet prices, there should not be crumbs on (long) unattended tables; and paint should not be chipped off of the dining room door frames.
They changed the Chef's Sampler menu on me. Anybody getting Chef's Sampler should study the menu before reserving a table, because that is what you will be getting. So my date and I verified before reserving that we like everything. But then we arrive and 3/4 of the courses were totally different. Their excuse was that they changed chefs. That's somewhat justifies the change-- but they have my reservation so they should have notified me-- what if I was allergic to one of the new items, or my date detests one of the new items? POSTNOTE: It just occurred to me that I checked the online menu in restaurant on my phone after I saw the different menu on paper. They still have people registering with the obsoleted menu. Doesn't show much respect for their customers when they don't take the time to update the menu that people are still using-- Redbook/Hillbrook staff certainly know that it...
Read moreDecided to try this place because I was staying at Hillbrook Inn. This is the most expensive meal I've ever had, it was very tasty. The portions were good, I was almost too full for dessert. The menu varies weekly, so I suggest checking it out on their website prior to arrival. The menu I tasted was phenomenal, and had a nice variety of flavors to it. As far as the wine pairing it was necessary for me to go with it because I have very little knowledge about wine and wouldn't know what kind to order. If you're someone who's well versed you could skip the pairing and just order from the wine menu and it would cost about half of what I paid. My server was Ty, she was awesome and attentive. She noted that I didn't like sweet wines and changed up the wine pairing to adjust. I appreciated that a lot. If I ever find myself in this area again would definitely...
Read moreThis is hands down one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at (and I’ve eaten at many). We’ve eaten here twice, once this summer, and again more recently to celebrate my birthday. We specifically stayed in the area so we could dine at this restaurant. The chef’s tasting menu is fantastic, and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys fine dining with an emphasis on locally sourced ingredients. I loved that we were given two complimentary courses with the tasting menu option (the oxtail ragu we got was one of the best things I’ve ever eaten). We also appreciated how knowledgeable and accommodating staff were during our dining experiences. The atmosphere is charming and beautiful, especially in the winter months. It is clear that Redbook cares about making each guests experience a memorable one, and we will be...
