FOOD: Pretty tasty burgers and fries, with various options for toppings and the like. Decent soda fountain and milk shakes.

SERVICE: After looking over a menu board in front (which does a pretty decent job of describing things), you then go to a POS system to order your food, and the descriptions and organization don't match the menu (which is through a doorway and out of sight). I had to redo a couple of items realizing that I had incorrectly selected incorrectly.

Then, having ordered, you either pay at the kiosk or at a check-out point.

Then you wait for your order to be called to take your tray.

It's all a bit janky, but, in their defense, we did have service people come by the table after we had brought our own food over to confirm we had everything we needed. And they did bus our tables, which was nice.

AMBIANCE: Old school, kind of dark, classic national park interior, with gorgeous view out the front of Yellowstone Lake. Could use a nice scrub, but overall quite pleasant.

NET-NET: Not great, but not bad, either -- certainly better than the mess in the food hall up at Canyon Lodge, and this is just the backup restaurant for the Lake. I would definitely...

Food is mediocre at best and is significantly over-priced for what you get. The ordering kiosks don't provide detailed descriptions of what's included with the menu items and the kiosk does not include pictures either.

We paid over $60 for 2 burgers, 2 salads and 2 fries. After ordering we waited nearly 40 minutes for our food and the restaurant wasn't even that busy. Wendy's, Burger King or McDonald's serve better tasting food and can deliver it in 1/4 of the time that it takes here.

Staff showed they didn't understand or that they didn't care when customers notified them that the condiments had ran out. When I asked for the salad dressing that was missing from my order, they told me that they were out and walked away without offering another option or refund.

The french fries were already cold when our order was given to us. The salad was dry, but passable. The burgers were acceptable, but basically flavorless. View from the dining room was spectacular, and the lodge property was beautiful.

Unfortunately, this seems typical of Xanterra-owned properties. It seems that their business model is to offer poor service, high prices, and low...

I go to the park every year as it’s practically out my back door. But I never buy food in the park, we usually pack in pack out. And this place is the perfect example as to why. My husband wanted to have a good lunch at a place we had never been. Well we picked this place, my burger was so over cooked it tasted like pure char, my son who loves burgers wouldn’t eat his as well because it “tasted burnt” and my husband who doesn’t put condiments on his burger had to drown his in ketchup to even stomach half of it. I’m highly disappointed with the cost and quality. I don’t mind paying good money for good food, but this place is a joke. I’m sorry to anyone who will go there without reading the reviews. Next time I’ll pack a lunch and eat it on their deck! I’ll have the view and...

Overall I was pretty happy with Wylie's. My main concern is that the ordering kiosks didn't fully match the menu outside the restaurant so by the time you made up your mind you had to alter that. Dinner was the very affordable Wylie burger and cup of chili. I thought both were good for what they were. Trust me, you will get way, way worse at other spots in Yellowstone. We went back for breakfast the next morning and got an okay breakfast sandwich on English muffin. That wasn't quite as good, the muffin was still a bit cold from being frozen but it got the job done. Order at the computer kiosk, food comes out very quick in my experience. Soda machine and self-serve condiments.

Had our bill been under $50 to feed my family (with four kids) this would have been a five-star review. However, given that it was $75, it's only four - too pricey! That said, the burgers were good, as were the fries. The atmosphere was that of a cafeteria - slightly chaotic, put in your order and pick up you food when your number is called. Self-service drinks meant that the kids got their fill of orange soda and Sprite. As we were in Yellowstone late that day, the key was that they were open later than most other restaurants and relatively close to where we were touring. The lodge itself is magnificent and the sunset view from the front porch was amazing!
