Wow! A clam shack in the midst of a heavily trafficked touristy area that closes at 7pm...the peak time for many to have dinner. I kept wondering about this...why would you close at 7 PM every day this time of year? Well, then it occurred to me. If you charge an extra $8-10 bucks for your menu items, then you can close at 7 PM. Good lord, I got the clam strips at two places last summer for $18 and $22 respectively. This place $29 and to add insult to injury, wanted an extra dollar for some extra tarter sauce, which no way would I pay that. Subsequently, there wasn't enough tarter sauce for even half of the clam strips provided. We also got the "fish basket" which is fish and chips just like you'd get anywhere, nothing special about it and it was also $29.00. That is close to double what I pay in countless other places. The fries are very good though. I'm not sure why the food wasn't particularly hot, but it was acceptable nonetheless. However, I absolutely despise being gouged even if I can afford it. I saw their cocktail menu which was not economical either. I won't be back! I love small businesses, I really do. But closing at 7PM isn't a business that is there for the community. Furthermore, gouging people just because you can doesn't bode well either. I live near a small clam shack in North Scituate a few minutes from where I live. They've been there for years. They charge $30 bucks for an enormous fried seafood platter. Beautiful large sea scallops, large shrimp, clam strips and a sizeable piece of fish. All for one dollar more. If that's not gouging I don't...
Read morePLEASE!! Turn off the huge stand speaker with country western music! PLEASE! It ruins the ambiance of being in an ocean setting and COMPETES with the car radios. It's a cringe-worthy setting to enjoy a meal. Trust me, you won't loose customers because there is no music. If people must have music, they can listen to tunes of their choice in their cars. Good lord, turn off the CW blaring. Now on to the food. The clam strips were crispy and sweet, served on a bed of tepid fries and good coleslaw on the side. The scallop roll was good, but again, by the time we picked up the meal at the window, it was rather luke warm. We also got some grilled fish tacos....modest amount of nicely seasoned fish was served in a soft tortilla and topped with a heap of shredded cabbage seasoned with a garlic sauce. The cabbage was further topped with a generous portion of pink onions, I think they were pickled or marinated. This may sound like the perfect fish taco to someone else, but I found that the cabbage completely overpowered any fish. I don't like onions at all, so I removed those. It was served with a side of cole slaw, more cabbage. I won't get this again, but hey, maybe this cabbage extravaganza with a bit of fish is just what you're hankering for! Turn down the music and we...
Read moreCame here after a fun day dancing at Tikki Beach! We both ordered the scallop basket and the clam chowder. When the order arrived we were very surprised that these were SEA scallops, they were HUGE and we were given so many per order! We probably could have ordered one and had been happy sharing, but the leftovers reheated in the air fryer the next day with some extra seasoning and lemon juice were so good!
The fries were very crunchy and potatoey!
It wasn't busy when we went around 6:15pm on a Sunday evening. I can see how the different windows for food, alcohol, and ice cream could keep the lines somewhat controlled during a busier time.
Expect the prices to be fresh, seafood prices at a beach restaurant. Our scallop basket was $35 and worth it for the amount and size of the SEA scallops they gave us!
I'm not taking away a star because the food wasn't what I'm "used to". The scallops were like breaded rather than completely covered and fried. There was more delicious thick scallop to eat! 😋 The New England clam chowder was more soupy rather than thick. I figured this was how they made their for and it was good for that reason.
It was a beautiful evening and the outdoor dine out atmosphere...
