My family and I worked with Bittersweet Farm and LaFrance Hospitality for my sister's wedding and reception last weekend. It was a wonderful event and the staff deserves tremendous recognition for making it happen. I was the wedding planner but was unable to visit the venue in-person until the week of the wedding due to being from out of town. The venue's responsiveness was not the best in the months leading up to the event, my sister had multiple emails go unanswered, but once we were assigned Alexis Ferland as our Day-Of Coordinator a few weeks before the big day everything went smoothly. It was one of the best run weddings I've seen during my time in the industry.
Alexis and her crew were efficient, unflappable, and worked nonstop throughout the event. When there was something I had forgotten to do, they were already one step ahead of me. Given the tight turnaround time between events (only two hours to set up after another wedding concluded), I am so grateful to all the staff who made it happen with a smile. I truly could not have done it without all of them. They were really outstanding and were always available to answer questions or handle special requests or concerns.
The venue is absolutely beautiful even without additional decorations, from the lush green lawn and gazebo where we held the ceremony to the rustic barn with twinkle lights on the ceiling beams. The only slight downside of the venue is that the full bar is up a set of steep stairs on the second floor, so folks with mobility issues had to rely on others to get drinks for them. Thankfully there were no mishaps even when people came down the steps with two cocktails in hand!
We were very pleased with all the food throughout the night; you can tell Bittersweet is a restaurant as well as event venue. We selected mini crabcakes, Beef Wellington, spanikopita, and fish and chips for the passed hors d'oeuvres during cocktail hour, and while I didn't get to try them the guests said they were great. Alexis also brought a tray with three or four of everything to the bride and groom while they took post-ceremony photos so they wouldn't miss out! Dinner was plated and a choice of salmon, prime rib, or vegetable skewers and it was excellent. I loved that that the entrees were dairy and nut free and Kosher-friendly for guests with dietary restrictions. We opted for a late-night snack of sliders and fries which were a big hit, and the staff cut and served the cake we provided. They also boxed the top tier of the cake for the newly weds even through I completely forgot to ask for it!
We absolutely recommend Bittersweet Farm and Alexis for a...
Read moreWent here for my 30th Birthday. I remembered a past birthday a few years ago I went and it was absolutely fantastic, so I wanted to go back. We ordered the scallops wrapped in bacon (average, nothing spectacular) & bittersweet beef tornadoes again this time to share, it was the same on the menu title & description. When the dish came out we were extremely upset but still willing to dry it. We ordered the steaks medium rare and they were like hockey pucks and tiny filets. The risotto was odd, salty, and formed into a cake that looked like it sat under the heater for too long, I don’t know what the yellow sauce was, it looked fake it was not how I remember, the lobster on top was shreds of what looked like canned overcooked lobster. My boyfriend ate it, he doesn’t like to waste nor complain. His friends and family has said this place isn’t what it used to be, I just didn’t believe them till now. The manager came out and tried to make it right, his excuse was there chefs have changed around, or they only had line cooks, and if the plate was made wrong they would have removed it from the bill. The plate was absolutely wrong, and awful. I just feel if a menu item that was such a specialty at this restaurant has become this awful, they shouldn’t have it on there listed as the same, I came back because it was still on the menu. If the chefs change, the menu specialties should to. His drink was awful but my boyfriend was so embarrassed about complaining he wouldn’t have said anything more. Needless to say, the long car ride was wasted, and spent on talking about how awful this meal was. I know the restaurant will reply to this and say they sorry and so on, but I stand by my review, I used to recommend this place to all of my clients, I will not be back. Happy...
Read moreI just wanted to touch on our wedding experience here at Bittersweet Farm for anyone else considering this as their venue —
You can’t beat the location, it’s beautiful all the way around. We were blessed to have beautiful weather + had weather not been permitting, they had a plan in place to do the ceremony inside and work around it so that took a lot of stress away!
We worked with Victoria as our wedding coordinator & she brought a lot to the table when it came to planning our day. She’s professional, very kind, timely, she made sure to always follow up with me for any questions/changes/etc. & always had a positive attitude start to finish which is what you need during a very chaotic & stressful time.
The food was delicious, a few weeks later from our wedding & I am still hearing about how good the food was! We went with the prime rib, chicken madeira and scrod which were all phenomenal. The hors d'oeuvres were sensational — mini beef wellingtons, bacon wrapped scallops + watermelon rounds were some of the favorites from our guests!
Everyone there helping with our wedding from setting up, to dinner, to making drinks — so, so kind! A huge takeaway for us was the atmosphere. Beautiful with such kind & helpful people all the way through. That really makes or breaks your day & I could not say enough nice things about everyone who works for Bittersweet Farm!
Thank you for giving us some of our most beautiful memories we will make in our life together! If you’re looking — you’ve found your place. I’ll be recommending them to anyone & everyone...
