My wife and I have been going out to the city of Westport for the last 4 years, since we moved to the area. We have always driven past Westport Pizza Company and said we needed to stop and try it. Today we did, and now both of us are kicking ourselves for waiting for so long!! When I walked in the door, I was greeted by the heavenly aromas emanating from the kitchen. The first sign that this was a good decision! I walked around the end of the bar and was pleased to see several tables along the windows, and doors partitioning off another dining area with several more tables. The lady running the counter was just finishing up with a vendor, and then immediately asked what she could get me. I ordered the Toddfather pizza, with a few exclusions which she gladly removed. She was very friendly and proceeded with some small talk as she took my order. She said it should be ready in about 15 minutes. I asked if she minded if I waited in the car, and she said no problem. Before stepping out, I availed myself of the facilities which were very clean, and in perfect working order. A very nice thing, although not a given in most establiments anymore. As the fifteen minutes elapsed, I was just about to head back inside to grab my order, when she came walking out the front door with my pizza. Perfect timing! I thanked her and went to put the pizza in the back seat. The smell was amazing, and this was going to be an extraordinarily long ride home, better to have it out of arms reach. Before heading back inside, she let me know that my light bar was on. Apparently I bumped the switch as I was getting out. I would not have noticed the light being on in the daylight, so she probably saved me a new battery. I thanked her again as she smiled and waved. The ride home was excruciating as the amazing smells of that pizza swirled in the cab of the truck. As soon as we got home we tore in to it. The pizza was absolutely amazing!! Fresh ingredients, and plenty of toppings. The crust was a perfect golden brown, not too crispy and not too chewy. The mix of flavors was amazing in every bite. Needless to say, that pizza did not last long, and we both sat back to relax with full bellies and our hunger completely satisfied. We definitely will not be waiting another 4 years to drop in for another order. This is the best pizza in the Twin Harbors area, and we will be happy to shout it from the rooftops!!
Thank you for great customer service and a wonderful meal. We will...
Read moreWelcome to Westport guys!! Overall a very good pizza. I’ll need to try a few more before making final judgment, but based on this first order I’m going to mention I think it’s the best pizza in South Beach.
I ordered takeout, The Cove, 12” size, without olives because I just don’t do olives. With tax and tip my order was just under $20. Typical for our tourist-driven economy, but may be a bit pricey for regular locals. The 12” serves one hungry adult, or could be split if you also ordered sides or an appetizer. Service was friendly and fast.
The crust is medium-thin. Not cracker thin, but thinner than hand-tossed. It’s yeasty, tender but chewy, with a nice cornmeal dusting. Mine was the tiniest bit undercooked, easily remedied by popping it in the oven for a few minutes when I got it home.
If you are a sauce lover, ask for extra sauce. I like my pizza fairly “dry,” so I was pleasantly surprised at the light amount of sauce. Sauce is nice, tangy, a bit spicy and not too sweet. Cheese was perfect, just enough without being overwhelming, nicely caramelized in spots.
The Cove comes with pepperoni, sausage, ham, mushrooms, bell peppers, red onions, and black olives. Flavor balance was spot on, aside from a slight lack of sausage. I only found three chunks on the entire pizza. Veggies were cooked but still crisp. Absolute perfection.
I’m looking forward to trying other pizzas as well as other menu offerings!
Notes to the establishment: Consider a moment longer in the oven to prevent soggy crust. Possibly break up sausage into smaller pieces so it can be spread more evenly without messing up weight ratios. I loved the light coating of sauce, but it may be too dry for average pizza fans. Consider running specials, offering coupons, punch cards, or some other incentive to encourage local customers. The tourists come and go, but we’re here...
Read moreThis is a fairly new business, and things are hard right now, so I won't ding them for not knowing if they have lettuce when I tried to order a salad or taking an hour to get our food. The staff was friendly, if overworked. We ordered in to eat there and also ordered a pizza to go for someone at home. They brought out the to-go pizza initially and left one of the others, then almost gave our to-go pizza to the wrong customer. But they're trying really hard and doing as well as you can expect, as they were swamped. Seems that they make their own crust, which is a bonus. The pizza is thin, has a good amount of very chewy cheese, toppings could be more generous. Sauce ok, not good, not bad. The food was just ok. Nothing bad at all, but nothing stood out as amazing or had that wow factor. All in all, we weren't sorry we went, but likely won't go back. To be honest, we are kind of in love with their competitor out there, and this place didn't change our minds. I think it's great that they're open, the tiny little town is probably thrilled with a good place to eat, and tourists will like it. As I said, nothing bad about the pizza, just not as flavorful as we're used to. No fresh or roasted garlic options, which would be appreciated. The blackberry spritzer though, ...
