Came here on 09/03/2024 roughly around 1:30pm for my first time with my baby girl. Sat down at the front bar station and was sitting there for 10 minutes while the waitress had her back turned carrying on a whole conversation with another staff member. I had to ask the waitress to come give us a menu. No acknowledgment when a customer comes through the door. No greeting upon initiation of service. Never came to check if everything was ok with my food. Had her head turned to the side & was very passive every time she put my food, drink, receipt, or change down.

Food was ok except the “1 scrambled egg with cheese” that I ordered on the side with my baby’s breakfast was plain & cold with a piece of white American cheese slapped on top that was not melted. I asked the waitress “what other kinds of cheeses does she have” & I got a blank stare for a few seconds, then I was told “they have Swiss cheese”. So I asked for the egg to be taken off my bill. The waitress bucked her head & said “What’s wrong with it”? Truthfully there was a lot wrong with it starting with the unwelcoming service … but I responded “because my child only likes the yellow cheese.” The waitress then pulled the plate closer to herself, looked at the egg (I was thinking she was going to take the plate back to the kitchen) but no this woman rudely slid the plate back toward my daughter and walked off without saying anything for a few minutes. I was going to say something about that nasty gesture sliding that plate to my daughter but she did it so fast. As she was walking off I said “I can just pay for the egg if it’s an issue “. Minutes later all of a sudden she tells me “they have sharp cheese but it’s not American”. I just nodded my head… because I never requested anything about any American cheese. She walked off without saying anything & came back with a remake but with the yellow cheddar cheese & this time the eggs came out very mushy & wet like baby food or mashed soupy mashed potatoes… then it was greasy on top of that. Never seen any egg with that much grease in my life until then. I was literally like three napkins in patting grease out of this one egg with cheese & it was still very greasy and mushy. The sweet tea was not good, tasted more like a flat Coca-Cola soda.

Me and my babygirl was the only black people in this establishment at the time we was there until the end of my visit I saw another black woman, a fellow trucker come in and was kind enough to open the door for me & my baby on the way out, witch I appreciated. I said that to say the white people that I witnessed come in after me…this same waitress got to their table in less than a minute with menus & greeted the other customers with no hesitation, I didn’t get that experience at all.

I also paid to hear a Michael Jackson song on the jukebox & it never came on.

I don’t appreciate rude, nasty, biased & unwelcoming customer service at all… especially dealing with a person’s food. I usually tip everywhere I go no matter how good or bad the service is but today I’ve made a change. I’m tired of accepting crap service. I especially didn’t like that she slid that nasty plate of eggs back at my 4 year old daughter. I didn’t tip that woman a dime. Will not be coming back. REPENT AND SEEK JESUS CHRIST AS YOUR LORD AND SAVIOR. Peace...

I've been going to this diner for the past 10 years on my way to Connecticut from New Hampshire...

Here is the report card for the Whately diner

Staff - A+ Friendly, Honest, Polite, Professional, devoted ..hard workers !

Food -B+ Good average diner food , ( never had a bad meal) but you could expand on the menu with a few new items beyond supplied by Sysco.

Bathrooms -F They need work...They are definitely run down.

Parking Lot - D - The moon creators in the exit portion roadway for tractor trailers need work and repaving.

Building- C- Needs upgrading with new tables, floors, seat cushions, chairs, maybe new kitchen equipment...

The owners of this establishment need to invest and repair this aging diner, which is a landmark in Whately This facility is critical to the truck drivers who depend on a facility like this and travelers looking for a nice clean place to eat with their family. The staff who work 24/7/365 is what makes this place and hopefully the owners realize this. A nice gesture to the customers and the employees would be some vital upgrades to this diner, but still leaving the nostalgia it is noted for...

2/12/19 Been to this place since last review and nothing has changed...great staff, but management destroyed the nostalgic terrazzo floor with cheap vinyl flooring.. booths and tables have cracks in them and the bathrooms are disgusting..It's too bad ...the place really needs some restorations...

10/1721... Places really gone downhill showed up today and was handed a menu with only 6 items on it the waitress told us that the chef was only cooking these 6 items hamburgers hot dogs eggs and pancakes..... pathetic..

I really feel sorry for the waitresses that work here because people were just walking out...

Beware: If you’re a person of color or different ethnicity please think twice before you go in. I had one of the worst experience of all time. My wife, daughter and myself stopped to grab lunch. We were standing at the door for a while not sure if we had to be seated. The usual customers (that’s what they claimed) said you just take a seat where it’s empty. Tara, the waitress didn’t like that we were going to sit and made some snarky comment about us going to take a seat. She came to take the order and didn’t give us the menu before, no big deal. She later came to take the order, and started taking the order and clearly made it known through her most cold attitude that we made a wrong choice by electing to dine there. Now here’s what made me upset the most, she delivered my meal with utensils from behind and threw it on the table and walked away. My jaw hit the table, the least to say. I asked her name when she came to bring my wife’s food. She said her name is Tara. If I hadn’t asked her name she would’ve never brought the whole meal that I had ordered as she delivered only part of the meal. I observed Tara cheerfully speaking to the couple behind us and other folks at the counter while taking orders and delivering their meals. We carefully observed that she NEVER threw anyone’s meal & utensils on the table except mine. It was emotionally disturbing to be treated differently. I dine frequently at various restaurants and I never encountered this level of treatment. It shouldn’t happen again to someone so I filed a formal complaint with MA AG’s office for violation of my civil rights. I seldom take time to write a review but this was...

For those of you that do not know, this diner and truck stop was the scene in season 9 of Dexter. In the show, the truck stop and diner was called "Caldwell". On the side of the diner, they still have the name painted on the building. Just a little bit of information. The thing I loved the most about this diner is the atmosphere, service, and they have plenty of truck parking. It reminded me of my childhood growing up in the Catskill Mountains in New York. It looks like a diner that is stuck in time but it is clean and nice. The service was gear also. The people are nice and friendly. I have to say that Betty Jayne was really great. She had a lot of energy and was extremely nice to everyone. The food was good but it did not have a lot of flavors. For dinner, I had the two beef patties with green beans. I just added salt and pepper to it and it was good. I went back for breakfast and ordered the Monster Omelet with Avocado. The portion was huge. Again, it was good but needed more flavor. Overall, the diner was nice and for a small American restaurant, the food is good. I do recommend stopping in in your way through.

Great looking concept old fashioned diner! I was impressed with the attention to detail to decor and overall cleanliness. The hamburger seem to be the main ticket item on the menu with several choices to choose from. Although the burger was not bad, it lacked greatness. A restaurant with this kind of "wow" to it, gave me the anticipation of a "wow" burger. The patties are small and the bun is ordinary. My recommendation to go with a thicker hand spanked patty and a custom baked bun to add greatness to the meal. Although I did not get to try one of the hand-spun shakes, they had an old-fashioned look to the ones that I saw being served. The dessert display looked good with many choices but the pies and cheesecakes where covered with a lid that advertised Sysco on them so obviously they were not homemade. You would expect with the old-fashioned diner theme that they would have homemade desserts. Overall I enjoyed my visit and the food is decent but the improvements that I spoke of would turn my opinion of this "destined for greatness Grub Hub" from ordinary to spectacular...

As we were driving back we decided to stop one last time to grab something to eat before continuing a ride home. As we were exiting the freeway or highway for some lol. We came across these bright lights across the street and noticed this all American vintage dinner in the middle of no where in Massachusetts. The whole 1950's feel and look was wonderful and the service was excellent! My friend asked the waitress a few questions about the place and the waitress was extremely helpful. Here's a few photos I took with my @googlepixel 4, hope you all enjoy!! #TeamPixeL #GoogLePixeL4 #giftfromgoogle #samztravels
