I live near Jennings Florida and make monthly trips to White Springs to hike sections of the Florida Trail. And when I bring my two little ones to Bell Spring we always stop here. If we can't afford it then my son has been known to cry 😆 I can see why tourists would love it for different reasons than we do. But as a country girl I grew up on places like this that are small but with big heart ! The food is great and affordable. The service and the atmosphere is always pleasant. You end up meeting other folks in here and having nice conversation. Saturday I had the burger and it was just how I like it. Not too big, not too thin, and not dry. Don't get me started on the coleslaw and brisket. As a fossil collector I always enjoy the unique artifacts on the walls. Also they have these beautiful hand crafted cypress bandsaw boxes that are very decently priced compared to the kind you find online. Plus they're more unique! A few visits ago they had yummy jars of homemade strawberry jelly to boot! This will always be my favorite place to eat when I'm in White Springs. A big thank you to the staff for always being the sweet and helpful folks that y'all are! It's what makes the...
Read moreI had the shrimp & catfish fingers =10 plump shrimp and 3 catfish fingers.. shrimp were ok...catfish was some of the BEST I've ever eaten... and that seemed to be what I saw coming outta the kitchen mostly. So the locals know. My husband had the chicken wings, which he always does. He loves wings, but not these. He said they were flavorless, even though they were breaded and had sauce on them. That's not like my husband either. He rarely complains or says something was not good ... so I know it was bad. He got tater tots with his, and they were really good. I got fries and coleslaw. I asked before ordering if the slaw was creamy, mayo based, and she said yes... but it was so dry,NOT CREAMY at all.. so I asked for a side of mayo, added a little sugar, salt, and pepper, and it was delicious 😊. But come on, if you're telling me it's creamy and you see it clearly isn't, just tell me or fix it before you bring it out. The atmosphere was nice, old fashion... just like I hoped it'd be for a mom & pop place. We always seek them out when on...
Read moreI think I need to be a food blogger, a person who eats there way across the country and reports to the rest of the world how good the food is at a certain establishment. On our journey up North via I75, We decided on Fat Belly’s in White Springs FL. The food is so reasonable and plentiful. We ordered the pound of pork with side of hush puppies, onion rings and coleslaw. The pork was lightly smoked and then pan fried. It was tender and had a nice flavor. Coke slaw was sweet and very tasty. I liked their bbq sauce and their cattlemen’s sauce which was a sweet mustard sauce. The bill was $21 for 2 people. So reasonable! We have a half pound left of the pork. This is where the banks of the Suwannee River is. Now, I have the song playing in my head (does anyone remember Jackie Gleason and Ed Norton) and Ed Norton warming up on the piano ? Ed Norton was coaching Jackie Gleason for a ‘Name that tune’ show by playing him different songs on the piano. Ed always warmed up his fingers and played that song. Just watch the episode of the...
