First time to this restaurant after the 20 years of living in the area. Wife wanting to go for her Birthday . This is a Rustic location inside and out absolutely correct. The inside was like a TGI Fridays, less the lighting ,so you struggle to see some great nostalgic framed articles. We made Thursday evening reservations, and arrived on time . Only to wait to be seated in a half full dining room. I assume it was the lack of staff, didn't notice a bartender or bus boy, just 3 servers and one server as acting bartender. We were finally seated next to a table that wasn't cleaned. A half eaten steak and a spray bottle with a dirty wrag sat next to us . The waitress was polite but hurried . She took our drink order and gave us the specials quickly. As we were about to speak she darted off. On her return with our drinks we ordered Herring Tidbits, Cub size steaks with Garlic butter medium well, sweet potato , salad with Italian on the side . I ordered the Beta size steaks. One size larger with sauteed mushrooms (Canned), dirty potatoes. Our bagged salad with chopped tomato in the center as well as the Tidbits arrived. The Herring was store bought laid on a bed of lettuce and served with saltines . Yes I said saltines , I took pictures of this culinary master piece . The neighboring dirty table was still not cleaned . We also had a challenge with some Vampire flies that must have had night vision and had no fear of humans. The sizzling steak arrived , I didn't have a measuring tape but I believe our steaks were the same size, mine looked larger with the pile of (alledgedly canned) mushrooms garnishing the top. The Dirty potatoes ( skin mixed in) also seemed to be store bought . I cut into my steak and it look like it was defrosted in the microwave with hard outer edges, my wife's was medium rare instead medium well ,her potato was covered in brown sugar not certain why. We soldiered on and didn't complain , we only saw our waitress once through the course of our meal. And she didn't stick around long enough to hear a complaint. So when we wanted our check she asked if we wanted to box the rest , in stereo both said No, she also asked if we wanted desert , again no. Wasn't certain what store bought product might have been served next. I didn't make any mention that it was my wife's birthday . But it was time to pay the check, feeling extremely generous we paid the waitress 20% on $90 meal with drinks . If your into sitting at the bar and drinking it may be a great place. For food ,...
Read moreI called Red Wolfe Inn on Thursday to make a reservation for Sunday. The call went to voicemail, which instructed me to leave my contact information, requested day/time, and party size (just two of us). It also stated that someone would call back to confirm — but we never received a confirmation.
By Saturday, still having heard nothing, I checked online to see if they might be closed. There were no updates on their website or social media. In fact, their last Facebook post was from February. I called again and was directed to the same voicemail. Again, no response.
Despite the uncertainty, we decided to take the risk and drive 30 minutes to the restaurant, hoping either our reservation was on file or we could get a table. Unfortunately, when we arrived around 6pm Sunday, the parking lot was empty — they were closed, even though their online hours said they should be open from 4pm to 9pm.
This visit was meant to celebrate our 9th anniversary. My boyfriend has always loved the Red Wolfe Inn, and we hadn’t been there in over six years. He was genuinely excited to return, so the letdown was especially frustrating.
I still don’t know why they were closed — and that’s the core issue. In an age where it’s incredibly easy to communicate basic updates, it’s unacceptable that there was no notice online or on their voicemail. We weren’t the only ones caught off guard either — several other cars pulled in and turned around while we were there.
I can’t speak to the food this time, and sadly, I don’t know if I’ll get the chance again. But communication matters, and this situation could have been handled much better with just a...
Read moreafter living in the area for awhile, and ALWAYS hearing everyone hooting and hollering about the steaks, I thought of no better place to choose for my 35th birthday dinner.
Upon arrival and waiting to be seated I read over the coat of arms of the Irish surname. I wondered if Irish influenced flavors awaited me. Only to be surprised to see French cuisine of frog legs and escargot first thing upon opening the menu.
We ordered the 5oz filet mignon (medium), 16oz NY Strip "alpha cut" (m. Rare), and penne vodka dinner. Appetizers were French onion soup which were delicious, and loaded potato skins. The salads, soups, and complimentary bread came out immediately and prompt! Nice!
Our entrees took a few moments after we finished the apps. The penne first came out and looked amazing on the large plate in bright pink sauce.
The steaks came out next on SIZZLING hot plates. And knew before I cut into them they were going to be dissapointing.
The steaks were completely over cooked and not seasoned at all. The NY Strip came out in a large chunk of meat cooked well done, and reminded me of a cheap London Broil and not a $42 steak. The inside was dry as a bone and void of flavor.
The filet mignon came out as tuff as a pot roast. Also cooked beyond medium and into oblivion. The seafood topper also underwhelming and consisted of prefrozen shrimp slop.
If you're looking for a good steak and don't mind spending a few dollars, make...
