This past weekend, my wife and I took a trip to Pennsylvania, and a highlight was visiting King Kone & the Jungle Kafe, an ice cream shop that holds a special place in her heart. She fondly remembers stopping here with her grandmother and siblings after school, creating countless cherished memories over scoops of their favorite flavors.
From the moment we arrived, I could see why this place is a local gem. The ambiance is both cozy and vibrant, with a playful jungle theme that gives the place character. There's an unmistakable nostalgia in the air that makes you feel like a kid again, which probably explains why my wife had a huge smile on her face the moment we stepped inside.
The staff was warm and welcoming, giving us a true small-town experience. They greeted everyone with enthusiasm, and it was clear they took pride in making each visit enjoyable. It’s refreshing to see such genuine, friendly service.
When it came to the ice cream, King Kone delivered. I ordered two scoops in a cup of Salty Caramel Truffle and Cookies & Cream and each scoop was as rich and flavorful as I would hoped. The Salty Caramel Truffle was a standout, with just the right balance of sweet and salty, while the Cookies & Cream offered a classic creaminess with plenty of cookie chunks in every bite.
King Kone also has a variety of other treats on offer. Besides their wide array of ice cream flavors, they serve milkshakes, sundaes, and even some hot food options, perfect for those who want something savory before diving into dessert. For anyone in the area, especially families looking for a spot that appeals to all ages, King Kone & the Jungle Kafe is well worth a visit. It’s more than just an ice cream shop, it's a place where memories are made, and we were happy to create a...
Read moreKing Kone has always been AND continues to be in my top 3 favorite ice cream stands. They have always been very accommodating to special requests (i.e: ordering/making flavors in quarts for takeout, ensuring we get EXTRA sprinkles when requested, mixing flavors, EXTRA gel on ice cream cakes, etc). The owner and employees have always provided great service (and I will always tip because they ARE providing a service to the public with much more than I can make at home). King Kone carries pretty much every flavor of hard ice cream, soft serve in seasonal flavors as well as vanilla, chocolate and twist, AND custard which is typically vanilla and chocolate. Occasionally they have sugar free soft serve as well. You can purchase any size from baby to large, in a dish, cone or waffle bowl. The cone options, which are also homemade, include regular cones, waffle cones, chocolate dipped cones, pretzel cones, and cookie cones. They carry homemade italian ice all year round, with multiple flavor options. We LOVE the blue raspberry and root beer ice much better than Rita's Italian Ice. The ice is much smoother and blended so well that when Im unable to finish it, I enjoy it just as much days later. King Kone is great for those in need of carryout, but they also provide seating if you have a larger group or dont want the little ones getting ice cream and sprinkles all over the car. I was sad to see they redid the jungle themed room however I still love the oppenness and cleanliness of the sitting area, which still includes a public restroom. Overall, Iove King Kone. From service to flavor options and variety of items they sell, this place is by far...
Read moreI have been going to King Kone since I was a little girl, the ice cream is great! If I was basing this review solely on the ice cream, I would give 5 stars. However, I am not, and here is why. Many things factor in to what makes a great experience, a few things didn't quite measure up.
This evening I stopped in with my mother and my two nephews. My 9yrold nephew ordered ice cream in a specialty cone as did I. As the girl was making it, she broke my nephew's cone and instead of getting him a new one, she put the broken up cone, ice cream and a spoon in a to go tray. This kid wanted ice cream in a cone, not a dish with pieces of cone and melted ice cream. It ruined his experience, also, I paid for a specialty cone and we should have been given it the way we ordered it, he didn't break it, the girl did. Not only that, I noticed they keep those cones out on display. I thought they did that so people can choose, then get the ones they use out of a box or something. I did think they were a little stale from sitting out and I noticed that the last time I ordered a different specialty cone too. I would suggest just keeping display ones out, and others in a box or container.
I guess my youngest nephew lucked out, he ordered a milkshake, that was good and my mom's soft twist on a regular cone was delicious.
Regardless, I will go back, I love the place, just very disappointed that they served that...
