The rest of our food was delicious, just a disappointing vegan/dairy free experience, so I want to warn other vegans and food allergy folks to be prepared if they eat here. Update now that I have eaten here: I brought my parents here when they were visiting from out of town. My dad has a dairy allergy, which makes it hard to find good places to eat. But they only really have 2 vegan meal options on the menu, both sweet meals, not savory. You can make some other meals vegan, but you have to ask, it’s unclear which side dishes are vegan until a server tells you. The most disappointing parts were that we received some nice mini muffins as a free appetizer, but there was no dairy free option so my dad couldnt have any. His entree was a salad, which could be made vegan, but he wanted to have some fresh bread with that. The server told us there were no toppings for the bread other than dairy butter. So he had to have plain bread. I know these sound like small things, but we honestly had a better time a few days later just ordering pastries from the bakery and not ordering from the restaurant, because there were so many more tasty vegan options. Original review: Bread and Butter has a lovely outside dining patio out back in addition to their indoor dining area. I haven’t eaten here yet, but wanted to share photos of the outdoor eating area (I was at the attached restaurant Auspicious Bakery at the time).

Bread and Butter redeemed themselves to the point I’m writing a review, which I don’t normally do. The first time my family visited, we weren’t given a warm welcome or even knew there was a restaurant in the back of Auspicious bakery. But we gave another shot and made a 8:45am reservation on Saturday morning for 2 adults and 2 littles (3yr and 3mo). They had someone greeting and directing guests as you entered, which was huge improvement from last time. Our reservation requests were granted, asking for indoor table near the patio door, knowing our son will go outside after we ordered, and to have our stroller at the table. Our server greeted us immediately and was so sweet. The experience was perfect but the food was PHENOMENAL. We ordered the donuts, breakfast plate, and the Shakshuka Croissant. The sauces paired with the sausage and donuts are finger licking good. They provided mini blueberry muffins and butter, and were too hard to share. The hash brown potato’s were flaky and crispy. While I think some of the plates are pricy and there’s no kids menu, the portions are easy to share and worth every bite. The atmosphere is great and our toddler enjoys watching the bakers or going outside to watch the birds and boats. I’ll definitely be bringing family and visitors here soon.

I’ve been a fan of Auspicious Bakery’s goods sold at Fox Coffee and other cafes in Savannah. When I heard they had a restaurant on Wilmington Island, I knew I had to try it. The atmosphere is casual and perched right on the marsh of the river. You have a choice of patio or indoor seating, and regardless of where you choose, you’ll have sweeping views of the charming marsh to enjoy while you dine. The tables, plates, and other utensils were clean and well-presented. The service from the host and server was quick, friendly, and attentive. They offer local Perc coffee, which is a must-try. For this visit, we tried a half-size of the biscuits with gravy, lemon-blueberry sourdough pancakes with blueberry sauce, and shakshuka. The presentation of the food was well-received, and the flavors were delicious. The only note we had was that the sourdough pancakes should come with a side or two for the price, as they didn’t feel like they fit the price point well on their own. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, and I look forward to returning to try more of their menu.

The food is 11/10, unfortunately the service was terrible. First we waited in the bakery line for 20 min instead of the line for being seated at a table because there's no signage directing people to the host (who is located in the BACK of the restaurant). We were told the wait for a table would be an hour, so after an hour we walked up to the host and asked for an update on when we'll be seated. Clearly flustered, he insists he just called and spoke to us on the phone. We never received a call and there were several groups who came in after us that were seated before us. Mistakes happen but it was annoying that he insisted he called us and didn't apologize when it was obvious he was lying. Our waitress was very kind but the service was incredibly slow despite ordering immediately. We asked for straws with our water and waited so long that we eventually walked up to the bar and got straws ourselves. We were done with our food for almost 30 min before she brought the check. She accidentally charged us twice for an item so we had to wait another 30 min while she attended to other tables and then eventually asked someone else to help her fix the check. When she finally came back with the correct check, she apologized for the mistake but didn't try to make it right. She didn't offer any sort of small discount or free bakery item, just handed us the correct check and asked us to pay in full. Overall, we ate our food in about 45 min but the entire endeavor took 3.5 hours; first time not leaving any...

Overall, the food was quite good and enjoyable. However, there are a few areas where improvements could enhance the guest experience and even open up new revenue opportunities: Signage – There should be clearer signs directing customers to where the bread and butter are located. Without them, it’s easy to mistakenly queue up in the bakery line unnecessarily. Bakery Limitations – Guests should be allowed to order desserts directly from the bakery. Restricting this access likely results in missed sales, as many people would love to grab a dessert on their way out. Outdoor Seating – Restaurant & Bakery – The lack of outdoor seating is a missed opportunity, especially for those who prefer dining outside or want to bring their pets. Adding outdoor seating for the main restaurant would make it more inclusive and inviting. Additionally, there’s a perfect spot next to the bakery on the side of the building that could be used for separate bakery seating — a simple addition that could boost business and customer satisfaction. Potato Squares – These were unique and flavorful, but a bit overly crunchy and seemed overcooked. While tasty, they might benefit from a slightly refined preparation. Also, a brief description of what they are would be helpful for diners unfamiliar with them.

With just a few small adjustments, this place could go from good to great — and bring in more business in...
