If you love loaded bloody marys and amazing BBQ, Doc’s Sports Bar and Grill in Sturgeon Lake, MN, is the spot to go too! Start with one of their loaded bloody marys, you get the option between a sandwich or ribs to go on top. Both were really good, and the bloody itself was super flavorful! Then, you have to try some of their BBQ. We tried Doc’s Platter, it came with a half rack of ribs, smoked beef brisket, pulled pork and fractured wings, along with a bunch of sides! The beef brisket was a little dry for our liking but we were obsessed with the ribs, wings and pulled pork. So good! So, if you love loaded bloodies and amazing BBQ, head to Doc’s in Sturgeon Lake. My wife and I traveled to Sturgeon Lake, MN to meet friends for lunch at Doc's Bar and Grill. Apparently they are famous for their bloodyMary's, which our friends enthusiastically endorsed. I have to take their word for it since neither my wife nor I are drinkers. I ordered the "Herman the German" sandwich (best description is a Philly sandwich with saurkraut and pepper jack cheese) and my wife ordered the fish tacos. Both were quite good but not exceptional. The Herman the German was flavorful with tender and moist roast beef and who (besides my wife) doesn't love sautéed onions and green peppers? The saurkraut added a fresh acid bite to a heavy, savory sandwich. The fish tacos were average and I found the slaw a bit on the sweet side. One of our friends ordered the pepper burger and it looked really good. The sausage and ground chuck patty was much bigger than the bun and it was described as delicious. I will order that the next time I stop there on a trip to or from Duluth.

I would give a half star if possible. We came here last year on our way up north during a Vikes game and loved it - however this year was a different story.. Stopped here on Fri. 5/25 once again on our way up North, things started off OK but you could tell it was busy and the waitress was a little flustered. Ordered nachos for an app which took way too long, close to an hour. After ordering a second beverage she kept walking back and forth not acknowledging us and we had to stop her (we were sitting right next to the bar) and she said, "Glad you stopped me." When first ordering our beers we had both asked for olives, the second drink came without them, when my bf asked for olives she gave a little attitude then came right back with what you could tell was the last of them (bits and pieces) and told us that was it.. She could have just said they were all out.. The people sitting next to us (mother and daughter) you could tell had been waiting for their food for a very long time (had been there before we got there) and obviously being right next to them we can hear everything (they had the same waitress as us) and she came over to them and said "I hope your food will be out soon." You could tell they were getting annoyed.. Finally their food came out, then our nachos finally showed up.. Waitress never addressed us nor the mother and daughter.. It's an hour and a half in to our experience and I actually saw a different waitress bring out food for a family across the bar, she set their food on a dirty table and handed everything out.. IDK that rubbed me the wrong way.. Finally about 1 hour 45 minutes later our food comes out.. My boyfriend and I were served and she only brought out fries for my daughter.. I had to ask where her corn dogs were and the waitress told us she was just informed they were out.. If our food had been cooking as long as it had why were we not told earlier?! Screw up my food, fine, but my kids?? & we had already been waiting THAT long? I asked for the manager because once again the waitress was getting an attitude, she told me the owner was cooking which was a lie, I knew who the owner was as she had been helping other waitresses run food, sure enough I was right - so now the waitress was lying and getting crabby. The owner got chicken strips in for my daughter right away.. Which came out super fast - go figure.. Our so called 'waitress' never came back.. so we all ate our food and just wanted to get the heck out as soon as possible. Oh and the owner gave me a free beer.. she said she would comp my daughter's meal and a couple beers.. So we're waiting for our bill and I ended up asking the owner for it since she was the only one walking passed us.. She hands my boyfriend a ticket for $26, he gives her his card and the owner hands it all off to our 'waitress', she runs the card and finally returns and the bill was now $40 something.. Oh my dear lord.. So we ask and she said the owner gave us the wrong bill, I say this is just ridiculous and she looks at me, get in my face and says with the BIGGEST attitude and says "Well I hope you don't blame me!" You're kidding... & one point she apologized and I said, thank you - we had been waiting for that apology! At this point there's 2 men sitting next to us where the mother and daughter once were and witnessing this whole thing. By far one of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. Period. Crazy how we had so much fun here last year and this year we just got very unlucky with a disrespectful waitress. If you're down to 1 cook, it's not our fault.. At least let us know what's going on with the food, ask how we're doing, etc. It's not that complicated. We're not needy nor high maintenance but if you mess up my kids order and get an attitude with me as a paying customer.. That's really not OK. So disappointed. I hope that girl gets a reality check, not long before we got there she started treating us like we were inconveniencing her by sitting her section. Unreal. 2 hour...

We were welcoming home some of our 148th military members and took a party bus from Duluth to the Haunted Hay ride in Wyoming. I had made a reservation for food and drinks. We made a pit stop at Docs bar and grill on our way down. Right when I walked in I was told by a server very passive aggressively that we were early for our reservation and it was inconvenient that we were there. I made a reservation at 4, they argued with me and told me it was for 5. I was on a very tight schedule, so I did not make this reservation for 5 as we had to leave their location at 545. The locals were rude making comments we were there (which shows the bartenders and servers were talking about our group). The servers were not friendly and made us not feel welcome. A few people were playing buck hunter and were told if it gets busy they are going to need to move. It was all very calculated and discriminatory. We are a pretty easy going group. I made these reservation 3 weeks in advance. There is no way that we should have felt that we were inconveniencing anyone. I even called the manager today to discuss how we were treated… still haven’t gotten a call back. Would not recommend having a big group come in there, or double check and make sure you confirm the time of your reservation. I will never come back to this bar. I was a server for 15 years and this place is toxic and gives off very clicky...

My husband, two kids and myslelf came in for food on our way back from the cabin. Upon seating ourselves, we waited for roughly 10 minutes before anyone greeted us, after placing our beverage order it was another 15 minutes to get our beverages. We placed our food order (mixer basket and 2 burgers), finished our drinks and after 20 mins since nobody came by, my husband went to the bar to get refills for us, where the waitress approached him telling him he could not purchase them from the bar, they had to go through her. He advised her he was not willing to wait 20 minutes again. After an hour, and seeing the two tables on both sides of us that walked in at least 15 minutes after us receive their food, we approached the waitstaff to let them know we were going to be leaving without getting our food. At that point they were extremely sympathetic and apologizing for the hassle, but unfortunately it was too late. Having a 2 year old and a 7 year old and an impatient husband, I would not recommend this place for a "quick bite." I must say that the ultimate Bloody Mary was good once I received it. Hopefully they can obtain more waitstaff and perhaps improve management skills to prevent this from happening...
