Ella's Cafe — Restaurant in Windsor

Got lost taking the backroads of NC coming from VA. Found this quaint tiny place in the middle of nowhere. Everybody seems to know each other...mainly locals it seems. Young hostess/waitress Amanda was sweet and very welcoming. Had about 12 tables in the place so its cozy. Expect a wait for food, no one seems in a hurry plus the chairs are comfortable. It was Saturday nite gathering place. Customers were very sociable also. The menu had a nice variety and is on the wall poster board. I couldn't read it from where I sat. It being close to closing I was handed a hand written piece of paper that told what was left of that day's menu. That indicates lots of people eat there and the menu must change. We ordered 2 dinners, flounder with two sides. The tea was good. The fish fresh and hot. Collards, green beans and potato salad were good. The macaroni salad was "eh". Again don't stop if you are in a hurry...sit a spell and enjoy slowing the pace down. I know I am coming back for the neckbones dinner, seafood dinner or...

I will never go back there. I normally do not complain about anything. But on this occasion i feel i must. Ordered a sausage biscuit and a western omelet. Waited 15 min. Biscuit was hard, cold, and sausage tasted old. My husbands omelet had hardly no cheese. Peppers were undercooked. She came back to the table and asked me about my biscuit. I said it was hard cold and i cant eat it. Asked if i wanted anything else. I said no. I lost my appetite immediately. She took the biscuit. My husband didn't finish all his. We went to pay. I thought after complaining about the biscuit she wouldn't charge me. Got up there to pay and it was $11.54. Didn't take card. So i had to go get cash. I couldn't believe she still charged me for it. I payed. I was nice about it. But that was my first and last time...

We were attending an event in the area and came across Ella’s. We entered not realizing they only accepted cash. The customers and wait staff were so friendly and several people heard us say we only had a small amount of cash and they offered to help cover our tab, if needed. Because of the very affordable prices were we able to cover the cost and leave a tip. Thank you to Ella, the people you hire and the wonderful neighbors...
