My wife and I drove from Charlotte NC to try out this restaurant. We saw the FB short and Mr. Chimetime review. First, there was a long line from the door to the serving line. Took about 30 minutes tops. Once we made it to the serving counter, they have pretty much everything dealing with soul food. Sooooo much to choose from. So my wife got the smoke turkey leg with mac and cheese and potato salad, corn bread and sweet tea. I got the turkey leg also but with green beans, rice and gravy. A roll and sweet tea and a slice of pound cake. We dine in. My wife said the turkey leg was tender (and it definitely was, meat fell of the bone!) But she also said it wasn't seasoned enough for her. Her mac and cheese was so so. But she did enjoy the potato salad. Corn bread was homemade (no Jiffy) and the sweet tea was good. My experience was TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Everything was delicious. Turkey, green beans and rice and gravy ( homemade gravy at that.) Sweet tea was good and that slice of pound cake was the bomb!!! Should have gotten two slices! Everyone was friendly and professional. Dining area was nice and clean and there's alot of art work on the walls. I heard local artists provide their work to the restaurant. Nice touch. But, I do have only one con about this restaurant. Everything was looking and smelling good. So with my turkey leg, I want an order of chicken wings. But I was told that you only get one meat for you entrée and if I wanted the chicken wings, I had to get the two sides as well. Which would have been another meal. Definitely wasn't a deal breaker but they might want to figure a way for customers who might want two different meats for their meal. Overall, I definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends. 9 1/2 out of 10. Oh and the cost of our dinner was reasonable. Can't...
Read moreI recently dined in at this establishment with my mom. Upon entering we were not able to order due to the manger rushing the employees around to serve a table in the back. Once we ordered and walked into the dining area I was amazed at all the beautiful portraits painted on the walls of powerful black influentials. I noticed there was a Caucasian family also dining in. As my mom and I sat down we made the second occupied table in the establishment. We began eating and I watched three employees and the manager go to the Caucasian family’s table to see if they were enjoying their meal, refill drinks etc. I had to call our waitress so my mom could inquire about hot sauce other than Texas Pete and she was simply told no. Across the room we heard the Caucasian male ask for another hot sauce option as well and the waitress then asked the manager has she ever heard of crystal lake hot sauce. No one spoke to us. Our waitress even began cleaning a table behind us without saying a word to us. I had enough and called her to our table and told her about my experience. I was taken back when she informed me she was trained to cater to Caucasian customers because they leave reviews. She apologized and thanked me for bringing it to her attention as if she didn’t know and said she would tell the manager. The manager then asked us in passing how the food was. I have never been so insulted in a black owned establishment!!! The manager never came to our table to address anything! I would like them to know that black people leave reviews as well and the service was embarrassing to...
Read moreWow wow wow! I haven’t ate this good in so long , my husband and I left so satisfied. We got the same thing, fried chicken, collard greens/cabbage mix, mac and cheese and an additional side of potato salad and banana pudding. EVERYTHING WAS DELICIOUS. The chicken is fried to order which takes roughly 20 minutes and boy was it worth the wait. Chicken was super juicy and extra crispy how I like it. The collards were perfectly tender with a slight sweetness to them which I loved, the mac was exactly how I like my mac and the potato salad was just as good, banana pudding was delicious and not overly sweet. The service was amazing, very attentive staff, making sure we’re comfortable, drinks always filled and just overall a welcoming environment. You can tell everything is made with love. I believe we spoke with the owner and she is a wonderful woman, super sweet and made us feel right at home. I’ve always been brutally honest with my reviews but I seriously can not find a single flaw with this restaurant. The only thing I can say is if you’re dining in make sure you tip good when you’re paying since you pay for your food first and then you sit down. Being our first time we wish we would’ve left a better tip for our waitress but we will be back soon and make up for it! Overall this place is 10/10 and I can’t...
