Flightline Cafe & Catering — Restaurant in Winter Haven

Have visited this establishment many times but this time it was a trainwreck. Not sure if due to new ownership or just poor planning for a Saturday crowd. We arrived at 5pm and ordered drinks and appetizers. Being educated in both back and front operations of a restaurant, soups are generally kept in a heated soup container and usually poured into cups/bowls by servers and yet it took over 20 min. to reach the table. Looking around many tables were empty and waiting for food. Come to find out that 1 kitchen member left sick and kitchen was short handed. Supposedly the owner went into the kitchen to assist but cannot confirm cause I viewed him being on the dining area and behind the bar. What amazed me was that he didn't even make table visits to apologize for the food delays in which ours arrived almost an hour later. The only ones who apologized was the server. A large group of folks came in of at least 15 and it turned out to be friends of the owner and somehow there was not a long delay in their food when it came out. If this group along with the usual crowd that comes in on Saturday (seniors)was expected, the owner should have made provisions for coverage. Lastly, I'm well aware that food prices have gone up, but it doesn't justify the poor plate presentations, food quality and quantity. First time visiting found this place online went there around dinner time on a Tuesday night which was “TacoTuesday “ only to find out they had no tacos the waitress kept apologizing while also stating that the reason being is because it was karaoke night and by it not being a big crowd they weren’t prepared she also said it was a very slow night so they didn’t have any. Which I would think the total opposite but after constantly apologizing again she stated she would see if the kitchen could make us something anyway. So i ordered quesadillas with sweet potato fries and my husband did fish tacos with fries When the food arrived the fish tacos only had lettuce and tomato with barely any fish they brought my sweet potato fries which were burnt with only like 6 fries never got my quesadilla the cook never made it. So when the waitress came and asked was everything ok we let her know it was horrible and we were just going to leave. Our dinner was ruined it was the most horrible experience ever. The waitress was apologetic once again went to talk to the owner or manager they never came to talk to us but gave us a 5 dollar off of a 25$ purchase for the next “ visit “ we threw in the garbage. We will never return there. That was the first and last time. Yesterday the 4 of us Rode from Sarasota to Winterhaven to go to this cafe we had heard about on a local news station. Sad to say it was the worst idea I've ever for up with. Let me start with the food. My wife's Ruben sandwich was cold, with no sign of sauerkraut, the cheese was not melted and we found the dressing hiding in a corner of the bread Tunafish sandwich on wrong bread as well as the chicken salad. I actually got 2 cold Cubans instead of one, pork was dry and overcooked. But they had great tater tots. Oh did I mentioned the tuna and the chicken sandwiches came with a cup of soup. Cold with a layer on top, once we saw waitress we sent them back to be heated and never did see them again. On two the service, I have to give a little background here. We walked in with a group of 30 in there and another 6 or 8 diners. After asking I found out they did make reservations over 30 days in advance and had called ahead to verify. This is important. Since it took 45 minutes to get drinks another 40 to get food and I finally tracked her down to pay. Now according to staff, for some reason the restaurant manager sent 1 waitress home and layer left himself. We got there at 1155. So I'm cutting our waitress a little slack, the 2 waitresses were nusting butt, just to overwhelming. The kitchen, I don't have a clue.
